That was the first thing that came to mind last night when I was watching Beto O'Rourke stand firm against Abbott's jackbooted thugs and the repeated howls of
"Sir, you are OUT of ORDER"
"Sir, you are OUT of ORDER"
"Sir, you are OUT of ORDER"
"Sir, you are OUT of ORDER"
...I lived in Texas for about a month and a half. WAS NOT FOR ME AT ALL. One of the smartest things I've done in my life was LEAVE at the end of that month and a half.
But I have GOOD FRIENDS who live there, and NO...they are NOT on the "Trump Train."
Between his power grid hijinks and the "border inspections," Abbott is a walking disaster, and I feel for MY FRIENDS...not the "Abbott Voters"...every time he pulls a new stunt.
I had trouble posting the O'Rourke photos here, but I know you have seen them. I HOPE HE WINS, and NOT simply because he's a Democrat. Yeah, there's that, of course, but he's a Democrat who is not afraid to walk in a room and face off against arrogance and incompetence and THAT is what we need right now, more than anything else. Go Beto, GO.

Liberal In Texas
(13,556 posts)One of the problems in this state has been getting dems and non-magas to GOTV.
It's getting better, but I fear we're not there yet.

(28,264 posts)Although it's obvious he deploys the wheelchair to get people to feel sorry for him. The wheelchair isn't doing anything to correct the obvious fact that Abbott is a miserable, piece-of-shit individual who has no business being in the governor's office. And Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is much, much worse.

(3,861 posts)and will also be sending a check to Beto's campaign.
I read that over 50% of the population of Uvalde county is not registered to vote. The mostly Latino county has a sense of futility about elections, just like most of the rest of South Texas, which is also heavily Latino.
Voting makes a difference. If you live in Texas, help people in Uvalde and other predominantly Latino counties in the RGV and across the state to get people registered and get them to the polls.

There are SO many good people down here and I appreciate your acknowledgement of that because too often we are all just lumped in with the crazies and that hurts!

(9,020 posts)... and it wasn't always like this. I remember Ann Richards, Bob Bullock, Lloyd Bentsen, Lloyd Doggett is still with us, even some GOP used to be level-headed. The GOP has become so radicalized, and they use culture issues to whip up fear and loathing of Dems to get their poor white, Bible-thumping citizens to vote against their own self-interest. Hypocrites, demagogues and con men.
Out of 29 million Texans, there are millions of good Dems in this state. We just have not yet broken the spell the GOP has cast over Texas.

(1,334 posts)I have a gut feeling, that due to this, the Uvalde County Commission is going to try to get Beto O'Roark removed from the county's ballot. Sounds extreme, but more government extreme has happened in Texas.

The GOP is not going to change, the Dems will never have the backbone needed to take on the GOP & NRA. Schumer wasted no time in saying there were no votes scheduled for any gun legislation, Im sure that soothed the hearts of the NRA
it is going to come down on to the citizens to step up and either vote for candidates that will change what needs changed or voters / citizens need to start demonstrating across the country, demonstrations like we saw over the Vietnam War or the 2008 financial collapse (which was a GOP snafu also.
