'We simply cannot cancel' | Mayor Turner says NRA meeting will go on as scheduled

HOUSTON — The NRA's annual meeting taking place in Houston this weekend will go on as scheduled, according to Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner.

The meeting is scheduled to take place from May 27 through May 29 at the George R. Brown Convention Center.

"The convention has been on the books for more than two years," Turner said during Wednesday's City Council meeting. "It's a contractual arrangement. We simply cannot cancel a conference or convention because we do not agree with the subject matter."

Many big political names are expected to speak at the event, including Senator Ted Cruz, Governor Greg Abbott, and former President Donald Trump.

I hope they get filmed. The more "rah-rah guns" they are in their speeches (and they will be) the better it will make for a campaign ad for their Democratic opponents.

I'm in the "Please proceed, Governor" contingent. But, I suspect that there will be more protesters outside than there will be attendees.

5,259,126 Texans voted for Biden. I and many others here were part of that number.

Even though most Americans want change.

You must accept the fact that the #'s say TX is a Shithhole state.

Sorry, but I don't see that changing anytime soon. You may be fighting that reality, but the majority of Texans support this type of reality.

That’s who they are. That’s who the whole US is.

Florida is a hell whole. Wisconsin ( my state) is yearning for political hell hole.

Sure 47% feels shame and horror. But we are only as good as our worst.

Face it.

And then they’ll just stop talking about it, just like all the other times.

Young people go back to posting their dumb instagram pics. And old politicians will go back to obstruction
