Texas Lt Gov Dan Patrick on "hardening" schools: "There should be one entrance in and one entrance out in all of our elementary and all of our middle schools. They're small enough to do that. There should be only one way in, and that should be a well protected entrance."

(33,643 posts)You know, the kind of door with a sign saying that an alarm will sound if you open it?
I've seen those around in my day.

(33,643 posts)I don't LIKE IT, but it needs to be taken, given that RePuQ's in power are evil assholes.
Point is you CAN have only one way in, but still have emergency exits.
My mention of alarms was just to illustrate a familiar concept, i.e we've all seen such doors in our lives. In this context, it might make more sense to just have alarms that alert the school administrators (like, in The Office), rather than blare out.
We humans have developed that sort of technology now

About 20 minutes into the film, he left theater 9 through an emergency exit door beside the movie screen, with direct access to the lightly used parking area at the back of the complex, while propping the door slightly open with a plastic tablecloth holder."

(52,162 posts)a fire door would be a 2nd way out, which is, last I checked, more than one.

(33,643 posts)It was all about cutting down on the costs of security for the rulers of the day.
If you convince the entire populace that they are being watched and judged by an all-knowing and all-powerful magical authority figure, you don't have to pay as many actual guards and soldiers and such to secure your kingdom.
It's a brilliant way to take advantage of the fact that A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE FUCKING STUPID.
Even today, guys like Patrick refuse to give up on the con. It's proven effective historically after all ...

(28,264 posts)Hey, Dan: There are some law enforcement types in Uvalde who won't be able to meet that standard. Their guns are still all shiny, and their magazines are all full. They might make a show of keeping a school entrance safe in the future---just don't look for them if a class full of kids is in danger. If the teachers promise you that they'll stay away from critical race theory, maybe they can help out. You fucking asshole.

(5,938 posts)lets face it these massacres happen all over the place. We wont be securing our way out of this mess until we deal with the root cause - the availablity of guns.
