(4,131 posts)We also need mandatory safe storage laws. I'm not sure either would have prevented the most recent tragedy, though. We do need them now and we've needed them for a long time.

(14,275 posts)We need an extreme stance so we can actually chip away at the madness. We suck at the art of compromise.
If we want to meet in the middle, we have to start extreme since we are up against extremists. When we start at where we want to end, we lose all leverage and negotiations. Asking for universal background checks for decades has gotten us nowhere.

(12,660 posts)NRA has successfully lobbied to keep all gun registrations on paper, so as to "keep the government from gun confiscation" because being "well regulated" apparently infringes on their rights to own as many firearms as they want -even though both terms are in the same Amendment.
After all, if you aren't doing anything wrong, why should you worry about people knowing you have firearms? It also helps the police to track down your firearm when they investigate the losses the suffered when your house was burglarized and your gun collection stolen.
Because that's how a lot of firearms end up in the hands of criminals or in the seedier pawnshops.

Or are they lying?
