Texas DPS now not only now says that Ramos was NOT confronted once before walking into the school but also confirms that officers "fell back" for "cover" upon initial contact and requested tactical backup for before making any other attempt 1 hour later

Spox also clearly combative with reporters and covering up information. Really disgusting

Texas DPS official refuses to say why officers didn't breach the door of the classroom for the hour that the Uvalde shooter was in there shooting children.

(1,654 posts)If he was confronted, why was no one hurt (or killed). It was all BS trying to start a false narrative for the fact that all those police who were supposed to be protecting the kids (good guy with a gun) did NOTHING. I'm glad some of the original narrative is being corrected but I'm still furious they even tried. What good were they? Acted worse than Keystone cops because they actively threatened and retrained parents. Every one of those officers at the scene before the Border Patrol got there should be fired.

More fearmongering for the christofascists to try to leverage.

(14,971 posts)the fact that the police are getting blamed for this? The GOP . Especially the Texas ones. It distracts everybody from the real cause. of this mass shooting .
Aristus
(66,385 posts)It just goes against their narrative that the 'good guys' need to have guns in order to protect against the 'bad guys'.
The bad guy with a gun took himself out with his own gun, but only after he committed his horrific murders.

(9,019 posts)the bad guy, Ramos, took himself out with his own gun? I thought I heard police finally broke in and shot him.

(9,186 posts)teaches them from the first day that there is nothing, absolutely nothing, more important than officer safety. Not civil rights, not actually knowing the law, and certainly not civilian safety.
Of course the heroes fell back, and waited.

(51,120 posts)I know they're going to deflect and say it was the school at fault here.
AngryOldDem
(14,061 posts)But perhaps that was not their protocol, given the small town. Ive always assumed that outside doors were locked during school hours everywhere. Just common sense. Looks like it was a side door, probably leading to the playground.
They may try to deflect, but it wont last long the way this is unfolding. Cops just stood around and listened to the shots. The town may well be a modern-day Mayberry, but nothing excuses this nonresponse.
You know, something struck me as being very off on Tuesday when they were giving their press updates. Very defensive and evasive, curcumstances aside. Now I know why.
Glad the clip worked. CNN was showing it early this morning when the narrative started to fall apart.
Feckless cowards.

(7,627 posts)they have lied and lied thru the years about all kinds of incidents. They have about as much credibility as Abbott and Company.

(12,660 posts)Even if they didn't, even if that "Mayor" and the local PD were living high off taxpayer money, they still had all that Army Surplus tactical gear that could have protected those cosplayers pretending to be "Warrior Cops" as they went in to get the murderer.
Didn't the local cops train for mass shootings - or even sit down for a school shooting reaction lecture refresher training between shift change? If the school has to have active shooter drills, the local cops should also be involved, right?
Of course, I live in a blue city, so that's what happens here -and all the police have a good idea of the floorplans of each public school (and some private schools) in the area, so they know how to go in and do their fucking jobs.
38 people shot.
There could have been far fewer shots fired if the local police followed available training and did their jobs.

Uvalde is a town of just 16,000 people. But it apparently has a SWAT team.
Were regularly told small towns need SWAT teams so they can quickly respond to events just like this. The killer was in the building for an hour.

I found the Facebook page of the Uvalde Police Department. It is very interesting and does not conjure a feeling of safety or wellness. https://facebook.com/uvaldepd/photos/a.984027511630606/2986614501371887/?_rdr

(1,737 posts)The media didn't report this from unnamed sources, a spokesman for the police reported that the gunman was confronted before entering the building. He gave us a whole scenario. Something isn't adding up here.

(1,737 posts)I don't know where the truth lies. There was an elaborate story told by multiple sources including the governor and now we are being told that it did not happen. They have lost all credibility IMO. We need outside people to come in a investigate. I am in agreement with the feds stepping in. As if the families were traumatized enough.

(9,481 posts)But the Republican virus can do that. Just look at what they did to my home state of WI in the past 12 years. And WI is stuck with a Republican legislature despite a pretty even split of Dem/Rep voters because it has been securely gerrymandered.

(5,843 posts)The entire police department needs to be replaced.
I heard the town has a SWAT team, yet they waited for an hour for Border Patrol to arrive? How many little children were bleeding to death while they were HANDCUFFING PARENTS? Yes, they handcuffed one of the parents. While their children were bleeding to death. While they could hear gunshots.
I can't even. This level of incompetence is pure evil.

(5,843 posts)... with condolences and support. What they had to witness was unfathomable and I wanted them to know that a nobody out there somewhere felt a great deal of empathy for what they were going through. The fire chief wrote back with thanks, which I wasn't expecting, but I was glad, because I then knew he passed it on to his department. Those people, having to deal with that, deserved to know that people were supporting them. That had to be the hardest thing they faced on the job.
This time, was the fire department even called?
Or is this a complete and total clusterfuck by what passes for law enforcement in that town?
