(12,278 posts)Really when you think about it, citizens in Texas and other red states can carry guns, semi-rifle and wear body armor so in reality the police officer would need a more powerful weapon to counter. That is fucking insane.

Yes, it needs an FBI investigation. I just hope the team is as honest as he is.

(2,593 posts)calls for arming more school officials. If trained police cannot rush a madman with an AR-15, why should a teacher. Answer, it is a false argument. Get rid of assault weapons.

(3,567 posts)a child. I do not think a 2nd grade English teacher is going to carry a pistol in her purse. I would not want to threaten a room full of children if she was. If the instinct is triggered she is probably significantly more dangerous than a cop.

(3,567 posts)heavily armed police hid behind cars in the parking lot?
They chose to do that job knowing the responsibility that comes with it.

(7,261 posts)From the very first press conference with the superintendent of schools, where the communications director very sternly announced there would be no questions, and repeated it several times, to the various interviews and pressers with LE where the "bravery" of police have been hailed and hailed and hailed some more. There have been more props given to law enforcement by people in charge than expressions of sympathy for the victims.
The whole thing reeks of 1) gross incompetence (which allowed the shooting to happen in the first place), 2) institutional cowardice, and 3) an attempted cover-up that itself is grossly incompetent but reveals the depths of evil that resides in the state of Texas.
