Charleston Police: Woman stops gunman at party
Charleston Police are releasing new details on a Wednesday night shooting investigation.
According to CPD around 10:45 on Wednesday night officers arrived outside of 1300 Renaissance Circle apartment complex for a report of a shooting. When police got there, they found the victim, 37-year-old Dennis Butler of Charleston, with multiple gunshot wounds. Butler later died.
Police say they discovered that earlier that night, Butler was approached about speeding in the apartment complex while children were playing. Police say Butler then left the complex and returned a short time later when he parked his vehicle in front of the apartment, pulled out an AR15 style rifle and started firing at people attending a party. Police say a bystander attending the party quickly pulled out their pistol and fired at Butler, fatally injuring him.
Charleston police say several witnesses and the person who fired the gun waited on police to get there and fully cooperated with the investigation. At this time no one has been charged in the shooting. The investigation now goes to the Kanawha County Prosecutors office for review.

This lady may have missed her calling...
I do have to wonder why the person firing a rifle into a crowd is the "victim"

(66,386 posts)1. How timely...
Just in time to boost the tired old "good guy with a gun" narrative just as it suffers one of its worst real-world defeats...

(18,663 posts)3. I found two points interesting
One- the contrast in action from what the Texas LEOs apparently did(n"t) do
Two- the use of the word victim to describe the aggressor. Should the Texas shooter be referred to as a victim of a police shooting?
Anything else you draw is from your own mind.

But unquestionably accurate

(33,345 posts)2. Thats one DGU (Defensive Gun Use).
How many Offensive Gun Uses occurred yesterday?

(18,663 posts)4. My best guess
Using the CDC data gathered under the Obama administration is there are about 300,000 offensive (illegal) gun uses per year. Dividing by 365 means about 822. Obviously not all of them result in death, injury or the gun even being fired, armed robbery or carjacking for example.
I would also point out this was one offensive use as well.
