Okay I will admit I am so sicken by what I am Hearing about police waiting up to an hour to go in to try and stop the shooting. Fighting and arresting parents who beg them to save their children and even arresting parents.
And superior power above help me- I can't stop myself from wondering if the delay and inaction might have been race motivated.
I feel terrible thinking this but I keep thinking of those sweet angels and those Republican white men and I get angry thinking Abbott and his ilk would actually be that sick.
I think I need to take a break from the news and I am probably seeing the worse in everything but part of me is like you can't deny the truth.
Please set me straight.

The 'force' was/is not well-experienced trained, imo.

(51,308 posts)I'm finding this narrative very disturbing. Children are dead, and their deaths should not be used in this way.

(13,575 posts)some of the police there were Latino, so dont think it was because of race. Think the local police were outgunned (not an excuse in my opinion) and waited to long for border patrol to show up.

(25,999 posts)but racial motivation for inaction on the part of the police is not among them. Not for me, anyway. Its an abstract tangent that is frankly not worth ruminating over.

(43,364 posts)As to local LE, perhaps the same. Now if you can link delays to budgets that were subpar by region, that would be one thing. But to connect it to actual decision making ... I sure hope not.
Where did this loser get the $$$$ to buy his arsenal? He must have paid close to $4,000 for it all.

(9 posts)Please remember the population of the city is only 15000. There is likely responders Involved that have other full time jobs and respond as needed. Not every small town has a swat team type unit sitting around playing cards at their headquarters waiting for the next assault. The first officers on scene with probably no more than hand guns are no match for an assault rifle. Center of command to coordinate? Way too many facts unknown and unfair to judge the local officials here...or Buffalo,...or all the other past and future locations. The fault should be directed to lack of gun control legislation and not banning assault weapons.

(28,885 posts)It sure looks like the cops were more against the parents
than the shooter.
It's hard to wrap my mind around, how people can be
such callous cowards in the face of such a tragedy.

I can't truly say how I would react facing a similar type situation. We all think we would rush in, I think I would, hope I would, but hell I might freeze up.
What I wouldn't do, pull a tazer to try to "control" parents in grief. So some of those assholes in the picture. I condemn them for those acts.

(3,524 posts)but when I saw video of young boy (age 8, maybe) telling what he saw and heard, I broke down in uncontrollable sobs. I had to stop and do something else for a couple of hours. Lucky me -- I do get to forget for a little while.

(1,182 posts)which their superiors now will have to defend. There is no greater "shield" against accountability than bureaucracy. Policies and procedures will change. Someone will have to take the fall, they're just deciding who. That person will agree to leave, preserving whatever benefits they bargain for, and enveloped with a NDA, precluding any talk with the media. Top brass has probably already hired an outside "team" to manage the whole thing, or will real soon. There's a whole "crisis management playbook" for these events. It's a growing "market"!
Now, as to the shooter's motivations.. still pretty murky there. But seems like yet still another "payback massacre" for a lousy childhood.
Meanwhile, you can purchase a kevlar backpack for your wunderkind, on sale now for about a hundred bucks! Not including shipping and handling.
Now that god is money, we all just have to die tryin'.
