Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick cancel in-person NRA convention appearance in wake of Uvalde mass shooting

Abbott and Patrick are scared of Beto and the rising anger in Texas about this shooting.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is backing out of a scheduled in-person appearance at the National Rifle Association’s convention in Houston on Friday and will travel to Uvalde, where a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers days earlier in the state’s worst school shooting in history. He will instead give prerecorded remarks to be played at the convention.

Abbott’s decision, provided by a spokesperson for his office, comes after the massacre reignited a national debate about firearm access — and renewed criticism of Republican officials who have long resisted and blocked attempts to strengthen gun control laws in a country where mass shootings have become frequent.

On Friday, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced he would also be pulling out of the conference.....

Cruz, though, stood firm in his commitment to attend.

“I’m going to be there because what Democrats and the press try to do in the wake of every mass shooting is they try to demonize law-abiding gun owners, try to demonize the NRA,” Cruz told a CBS reporter.

Governor Abbott Signs Second Amendment Legislation Into Law

June 17, 2021 | Austin, Texas | Press Release

Governor Greg Abbott today signed seven pieces of legislation into law to protect Second Amendment Rights in Texas. The Governor was joined for the bill signing ceremony by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Dade Phelan, Senators Donna Campbell, Brandon Creighton, Charles Schwertner, and Drew Springer, Representatives Giovanni Capriglione, Cole Hefner, Tom Oliverson, Matt Schaefer, David Spiller, and other members of the legislature, as well as representatives of the National Rifle Association.

"Politicians from the federal level to the local level have threatened to take guns from law-abiding citizens — but we will not let that happen in Texas," said Governor Abbott. "Texas will always be the leader in defending the Second Amendment, which is why we built a barrier around gun rights this session. These seven laws will protect the rights of law-abiding citizens and ensure that Texas remains a bastion of freedom. Thank you to the Texas Legislature for getting these bills to my desk."

Senate Bill 19 (Schwertner/Capriglione) prohibits any governmental entity from contracting with any business that discriminates against firearm and ammunition businesses or organizations.

Senate Bill 20 (Campbell/Hefner) allows guests to store firearms in their hotel rooms.

Senate Bill 550 (Springer/Spiller) removes the shoulder or belt holster requirements, allowing Texans to carry firearms in whatever kind of holster they choose.

House Bill 957 (Oliverson/Springer) repeals the criminal offense of possessing, manufacturing, transporting, or repairing a firearm silencer. It also ensures that any firearm suppressor manufactured in Texas, and that remains in Texas, will not be subject to federal law or federal regulation.

House Bill 1500 (Hefner/Creighton) prevents any government entity from prohibiting the sale or transportation of firearms or ammunition during a declared disaster or emergency.

House Bill 1927 (Schaefer/Schwertner) authorizes Constitutional Carry in Texas, meaning law-abiding Texans can legally carry a handgun without a license to carry.

House Bill 2622 (Holland/Hall) makes Texas a Second Amendment Sanctuary State by protecting Texans from new federal gun control regulations.

The demonic gun owners and the NRA are doing that to themselves. They do that "in the wake of every mass shooting," as you yourself acknowledge and admit. You don't even hear yourself anymore, because the phrase "in the wake of every mass shooting" doesn't even register in your brain. What steps did you take after the last mass shooting to stop the next mass shooting? Nothing. What are you doing in the wake of the latest mass shooting? Nothing again. What are you going to do when (not if) the next mass shooting occurs? Even more nothing. Which is why I can say with high confidence that there will indeed be a next mass shooting.

If you had a conscience instead of a cash register in your soul, you'd never stop screaming.

If the Houston SWAT team will be as Careful with the NRA blood orgy crowd as they were with the parents of the murdered school children. LOL no it's silly of me to think that way. They are paid well to protect and serve above the law swine like Trump and Cruz, and they will no matter how many team members or protesters die while they do so.

Probably have somebody deliver and read statement at the convention anyway. They know they messed up but hoping it calms down and they go about business as usual.

So-called law abiding gun owners and their pet politicians demonize me and all others who do not abide murders by legal guns.

Demonizing sane Americans for decades, talking about demon dems destroying divine culture and god given gun-rights and killing non-people (ignoring of course that we can reduce killing of beating-heart real people) and hate America because, as we know, "America is a gun".
