As Amanda Marcotte points out in this thoughtful essay: https://www.salon.com/2022/05/26/republicans-solutions-to-mass-are-a-distraction/ . They want us to just become dispirited as they reroute the nations money supply to the super wealthy, while their less well-off electorate is inflamed by Fox News propaganda, and so rages about abortion and migrants at the border. (All of what they do is calculated--hell, Trump not bragging lately about Roe vs. Wade about to be overturned is calculated too). I disagree with what she says about Democrats in Congress being impotent/weak--they would be a lot more forceful in my opinion if they lived in safer districts and states, i.e., if there was a lot less gerrymandering. Still, she raises a lot of good points, and i think her column, is well worth reading.

(47,510 posts)They will break our hearts and souls over and over for one purpose.
They want total permanent power and control, and access to all US assets.
A million dead from covid, children slaughtered in their classrooms, subjugation of women and other groups, destruction of all US institutions, demonizing of Democrats, etc etc.
They will keep harassing us with fake issues, shame us, control us, punish us until they achieve their goals.
They will keep murdering our children until we surrender and give them what they want. Just like Putin is doing in Ukraine.
Until we can face reality, nothing will change. We have to decide if we have the courage, will, determination to fight and fight hard.
If we do not fight, we are letting it happen. We will lose our children and our country.

(7,671 posts)Nobody that lives near me is a Democrat, everyone seems to love their guns, mostly have signs up still with pro-life/proTrump, guns going off all hours of the day and night, and now another mass murder in our State. I live on 40 acres in the Texas Hill Country which is beautiful but I wish I had moved to Colorado in 2003 when I retired.
I hate this shit but family is here and too old to make the move now.
Thank God I drink! ☮

(21,819 posts)According to FBI profiler John Douglas, those are the goals of the serial killer. They are emotionally and psychologically compelled by the desire to achieve these three conditions.
Odd how that lines up with the goals of the American Conservative Movement, isn't it?
