About the "veterans should guard the schools" narrative..

Along with the ridiculous "teachers should be armed" narrative is the one that advocates for US military veterans guarding school buildings. Problem with that is - lots of veterans turn out to be miscreant, law-breaking scumbags - just like anyone else. If veterans are to be guarding schools, shouldn't they be required to pass basic background security (oh, the irony)? Following is an *incomplete* list of mass-shootings perpetrated by US military veterans. Note that this is only a list of mass-shootings, not murders committed by other means, nor 1x1 confrontations with very low body counts.

Howard Unruh, ARMY. Camden NJ massacre; 13 dead (1949)

Charles Whitman, MARINES. Univ of Texas massacre; 19 dead (1966)

How that would make me an expert now on guns or security is beyond me.

I think Virginia allows vets to skip concealed carry classes. Why I wouldn’t need to go through that I don’t know.

Those who say that you can have mass casualties with bombs don't consider how much more time and experience it requires than to plop a credit card down at a gun store.
