Cancer?
A friend suggested tortellini Alfredo or ravioli Alfredo because its rich and she doesnt get much in her. But I wonder if thats actually may be difficult to digest. What do you guys think? And if this is in the wrong form please guide me to the right place. I sure hope its not end-of-life issues and its not related to age. Thanks a bunch

(22,583 posts)Eggs. People who aren't in the mood to eat can handle one or two bite sized egg halves. Similarly, grapes or other bite sized fruit can be nibbled on when the mood hits.
That may be just the thing.

(21,857 posts)A person who is recovering from liver cancer may not have the bile needed to digest fatty rich foods.
Bucolic Frolic above made great suggestions in terms of healthy eating for the liver but I wonder if your friend would find it palatable.
I notice that you used the plural, meals. Will you be preparing many meals for your friend? I would play it by ear and find out what your friend finds palatable and have plenty of it available.

(708 posts)especially watermelon. Hydrates and is so refreshing.
One of my daughters is helping a co-worker get ready for a liver transplant and she is pushing the fresher foods at him to help change his eating habits. You know, Midwestern Comfort Food is hard to give up! We live on and for casseroles!

(7,278 posts)fresh apples and celery were the go-to foods that stayed down once I was able to eat again at all, and settled my stomach. More a snack than a meal, but little and often can be a good way to convalesce.
They could be combined into a tasty salad with some leaves and a light dressing, I guess.
Fatty foods were a definite no-no for quite a while.
Dipped in peanut butter, so good when my tummy rebels.

(7,696 posts)Personally I wouldn't cook foods for the friend that were her favorite but not good for her UNLESS it was obvious that this is an end-of-life time/choice and she just wants to enjoy the remaining time. BUT --
if she wants to heal -- find yummy ways to cook the good stuff. I wouldn't worry about her not eating so much -- there's a lot to be said about the body healing more easily with less to digest.
I wish her all the best!

(18,402 posts)Your friend should ask her oncologist for a referral for a dietician to discuss an appropriate diet regimen.
If shes still undergoing chemo she may need to follow a neutropenic diet. Or not. None of us here knows her condition or specific needs for this particular cancer. Id respectfully say this is not the right forum for advice. Having gone through this with a spouse with (a different) cancer, the best route is to follow the medical professionals directives and advice.
Heres hoping she continues to heal and returns to good health.

(86,822 posts)A juicer like a Bullet or vita mix or something you can make smoothies with nutrient dense things that will be nutrient dense and easy to digest.
Try to avoid dairy, stay with clear liquids like cherry juice/water for the liquid component and maybe some baby spinach and a banana, berries and a few nuts like pecans or walnuts. That's a powerful smoothie I like that is pretty stout but really good, some kind of mix like that could be your best bet for getting a lot of nutrition in small volume.
Hope you find a good solution.
