Over more than 20 years we have been 'Hardening' our schools.
How much $$$ have we - THE TAXPAYERS - spent on security forces for schools??
How about the dollar amt spent on the construction required for better doors and safe windows?
How much $$$ nationwide for the added guards and their training, for the teacher 'shooter training', how much $$$ for the extra police training Etc, etc, etc, etc
I wanna KNOW.
I want to see the $$$ amt compared to other countries that had mass shootings (Australia, New Zealand...) and how well our investments paid off.
Cuz our kids are still DYING !!! They have not had mass school shootings since enacting measures to stop them - and they have not had mass shootings since. Their kids r Not DYING in a hail of bullets.
I know there r many ppl smarter than me that r reading this - can we get the $$$ stats ? How much $$$ are we shelling out for FAILURE??
Cuz that's all a great many ppl care about.

(11,337 posts)the idea that every institution, from pre-school on up - should be a hardened security bunker/silo - is fairly asinine on the face of it.

(47,226 posts)Mass slaughter of our citizens as they go about their daily lives, children in school, adults at the grocery store.
And we shrug our shoulders, believe it is normal, and decide to make life one big armed prison camp.

(52,166 posts)we have buzz in systems at one door per school and some schools updated fencing and the like. We spend low six figures. We already had resource officers at all high and middle schools and some elementary schools. That is 22 such officers for which we pay the salary and benefits for the time we use them (36/50 weeks). Assuming 60k per officer as an annual cost that would be about 43,200 X 22 or 950,400 dollars. We did a minimal amount and we aren't a huge district. We have around 10k students total.

(52,166 posts)I am at the top of the pay scale for a teacher here, and I make around 65,000 in salary and another 15,000 in benefits. So the most expensive teachers are 80k meaning we could hire 12 teachers, or 2 per high school in my district.
