They will say ANYTHING to try and justify guns and ammunition in the hands of the public.

low-paid workers for whom gun-handling is not even close to a top priority of the job?

What could possibly go wrong?

Eventually, a teacher will shoot a student or themselves or another teacher or a parent

Or they'll leave it unattended in their desk and a kid will grab out of curiosity or a legitimate attempt to return it to safety and then another teacher will come in and shoot the kid. Or some kids will try to grab it from the teacher or the teacher will *fear* that the kids are plotting to grab their gun.

I mean why not just literally pour gasoline on the entire school so everyone has an incentive not to start a fire?

The gun nut arguments are beyond idiotic.

That’s what a teacher who commented on the radio called it. Local npr.

You covered all the bases with each of your points.

I’m a teacher, btw.

The mental breakdown psychos would just go to shopping malls or some other place for their spree killing. Just a week ago, someone was doing it at an African American supermarket in Buffalo, then this event pushed it out of the news.

Military style assault rifles became available to the general public in the late 70s. That's when these events started. I remember that there was a mass shooting at a McDonald's in San Ysidro, CA and then another one at a Luby's Diner in Texas. It didn't get focused on schools until the Columbine killings, and once that was in the public consciousness other disaffected kids had the idea. There weren't killings at elementary schools until the murders at Sandy Hook, and then deranged people had that as a model.

If a school is locked down, the killer will do their mass shooting in another venue, but they're still going to do it. The only solution is to lessen the supply of the guns. Arguments that propose locking down all schools are really obtuse and misdiagnose the problem.

The shooters will wait until after school and go take out football or LAX practice.

What are we going to do, put 10 feet walls w razor wire and sniper towers around all outside athletic fields?

People to use guns and fortify schools with cops and steel doors and metal detectors will cost a fortune. Will the GOP approve federal funding for these things?

But what really bugs me about it is giving in. It's the acceptance that people will come to school and kill children. That's what they're really saying. We won't stop people coming to your school to shoot it up. We'll arm teachers. And when they fail, we will blame them for not stopping the next massacre, because we know there will be more massacres.

That's what they're saying with this idiocy.

Anything other than looking at banning killing machines.

as a mom to a special needs child, I would have an additional fear when sending my child to school. Not everyone is trained to understand and attend to these children. We've seen people with mental and behavioral issues get killed by people with guns who are supposed to "protect and serve."
