(83,846 posts)Speaking to An NRA board member about it now. He also brought up the fact that trump did his little jig onstage.
Of course the NRA is trying to whitewash all of it.

(14,939 posts)Ten died at Santa Fe, Texas, High School in 2018. To my shame, I had forgotten.
Gov. Abbott said the guns were legally owned by the accused perpetrators father.
The governor offered his sympathies to the victims then called for lawmakers and others to come together to prevent more tragedies. We need to do more than just pray for the victims and their families. Its time in Texas that we take action to step up and make sure this tragedy is never repeated ever again.

That was almost four years to the day ago.

(81,417 posts)Wonder how theyd feel if they were on the receiving end of all those trite little thoughts and prayers cliches.
What kind of comfort would they find in reflexive banalities like that?
I dont know if Id find any real comfort in that. I guess Id understand with people I know who have feelings but dont know how to express them well. But there are some from whom I might not welcome meaningless thoughts and prayers in the first place.

(812 posts)Since 2014 the US has averaged more than one mass shooting a day, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive. There is no official definition of mass shooting, but this database tracks incidents in which at least four people are shot or killed, not including the shooter.
This list includes the high-profile incidents, such as the Parkland shooting, the Orlando shooting and the Atlanta shooting. But thousands of other mass shootings have come and gone like any other day.
The Guardian: Every mass shooting in the US a visual database
This database tracks every mass shooting in America, but even it only goes back to 1/1/14. The problem is so much more endemic than most realize. There have been 44 mass shootings this month alone, and the month's not over...
Uvalde is the 213th mass shooting this year.

(4,858 posts)...Dayton, Virginia Beach, Boulder...they make such an impression on me at the time. I feel like I, the country, the world, will never be the same; I memorize the names of the dead. And over time...they blur. There are just so fucking *many*. Sandy Hook I remember as if it was yesterday--it's right down the road from me, and I slightly knew one of the families who lost a child. And know other people who knew other families. (Connecticut is still just one big small town.) But I'm worried that as time goes by, Uvalde will just be another fading memory, too...because there's nothing as certain as the knowledge that others will come along, and we'll all go thru this again. And again. And again...
