We can't be protected by the same masculinity that kills us

We can't be protected by the same masculinity that kills us]

For nearly an hour, children in Uvalde, Texas called 911, pleading for the police to come save them. Instead, more than a dozen officers stood in the school hallway, listening to gunshots and waiting for a janitor to unlock the classroom door. Others were outside, tackling, pepper-spraying, and handcuffing desperate parents who tried to run into the school once they realized the police were just standing there.

Eleven year-old survivor Miah Cerrillo—who smeared a friend’s blood all over her body so she could play dead—cried when telling reporters about the police waiting outside instead of rushing in. She didn’t understand, she said, why they didn’t come to rescue them.

Americans have been sold a lie about brave men. A myth that assures us the police are there to help, and that the old men in suits creating laws are simply protecting us. We should be glad, they say, that these very brave men are there to keep us safe.

What they don’t want us to know, of course, is that these brave men are the most dangerous of all.

We are letting ruthless sociopaths destroy people and the planet.

I don't know about anyone else, but I do what I can - I have my senators' and my rep's phone numbers saved in my phone and I call them A LOT - but I can only do so much. I work to GOTV, I work to educate people on how their lives will be better with Democrats in control. But I can only do so much.

I have real issues with the "we are letting them..." narrative. Just because I don't have the power to stop them does not mean I am allowing this. "We are letting them..." implies tacit approval and I simply don't accept that.

Who are like WWII Germans turning a blind eye to Hitler's murderous rampage through Europe.

If people can look into their heart and soul and know they are doing all they can to stop sociopaths from destroying humans and the planet, then they are not the people I am referring to.

"We" could be a little more exact in writing. "A lot of Americans are fine with this....."

Granted, it's a nitpick of mine, but using "we" in these statements is a lazy cop-out. "We" are not all allowing this. There are a LOT of people who are fighting back. Unfortunately those of us who are fighting can only do so much. And that's my frustration - I often feel powerless.

So how to we reach those who are fine with it? Can they be reached?

Sorry I'm picking on you.
