(32,778 posts)Especially when President Zelensky has said otherwise..and President Biden saying its up to the Ukrainians whether they cede any land. 85+% of Ukrainians say cede no land!
And, the advance by the russians in Donbas has all but stopped. UKR forces have taken back some land in the SSE area of Papasnia and have started a counter offensive in the Kherson oblast. The tide is turning again in favor of the Ukrainians

(35,320 posts)over territorial integrity, it just takes one utterance to shatter Western unity: "I'm Vladimir Putin, and I propose a ceasefire and armistice at the current lines of contact."
Those who want peace for land will immediately stop shipping arms, and will continue shipping additional arms encouraging war and militancy when, well, "Think of the peace!"
And if relaxing of sanctions is part of the Russian demands, the Western leaders at issue will likely say, "Sure." They have vested interests of one kind or another in trading with Russia, dealing with Russia, not being too beholden to the US.
Zelens'kyy wants all of Ukraine back; but he's also said that it would cost way too many lives to take it all back militarily. (That's assuming the Russian military doesn't crumble; these things have been known to happen, but you don't bank on it.)

Most know that if President Zelensky settles pootie will be back in a few years with a bigger stronger meaner army and they could be next. America would not benefit from this and the real experts know this. The policy of America right now is to weaken russia militarily enough that they wont be able to even think about this nonsense again for some time to come.

I will say, though, that once Russia withdraws from Ukrainian territory (tail between their legs), the amount of aid and assistance to help Ukraine rebuild will be staggering. Everyone's going to want to rub Putin's nose in his humiliation.
