The landfill use to take it but they don't anymore. A computer store use to take it but they stopped. A non-profit employed some challenged workers and they stripped the waste for certain metals but that stopped during the pandemic. There is no place to take it. I know a lot of people put it in their regular trash but I don't want to do that. Any ideas?
In It to Win It
(8,254 posts)I had replaced just about all of the electronics I had to make work-from-home life easier.
I had an old Dell desktop, 2 older monitors, old mice, and computer cables, along with coax cables because I got rid of cable TV. There are some other miscellaneous stuff that I didn't want to just throw in the dumpster to be put in a landfill.
There's a Best Buy near my house that takes certain electronics so if there is one near you, check with a local Best Buy.
Also, check with your city or county. They may provide e-waste disposal and they have drop-off locations. Whatever Best Buy didn't take, I dropped it off at the city drop off locations and they took everything I had left, including old cordless phones that I haven't used or plugged in for the last 10 years.
These were my two main sources of getting rid of e-waste for free.

(32,610 posts)They won't take it. The nearest Best Buy is about 80 miles away but I will check with them on the old pcs and printers; I also have two old Tivos and three old phone sets.

(4,399 posts)There's a surprising amount of demand for retro electronics if its small enough to ship or you live in a populous enough area that someone is likely to want to come pick it up.

(13,603 posts)Did you try googling "e-waste" plus the name of your state? I get dozens for my state plus a state government website where I can look up electronics recyclers for my city or zip code.

(5,857 posts)will take most e-waste (usually 2-3 items per visit). If any are apple products, you can bring to an apple store or search for "apple recycling" and they will send you a mailing label. Otherwise call your town and ask what they recommend since they aren't accepting it.

(1,527 posts)I think they wanted $4 each for florescent tubes. Both of these have phosphorous and other heavy metals.
Tires with rims were $5 each without rims were $4 each. Not sure if they had other e-waste listed.

(32,610 posts)if someone would take it. Those are some high prices but I get it.
