My sister and our youngest daughter went to visit Dad yesterday. It was time to put up a new flag. Nobody has been there in the last couple months. Trouble is dad's flag holder that said he was a WWII Veteran has been stolen. It has been on his grave all this time without any problems. How low can somebody get? They probably melted it down for the bronze.
Here is a flag for Dad.
His holder looked something like this:

And one for my dad, also a World War II veteran.

(65,076 posts)...stealing it is even lower rent.
Bronze only runs about a buck & a half per pound.
I know a guy who casts bronze animal statues. (Miniatures)
He can make 40 statues with 10# of bronze and he pays $14 or $15 for 10#.
So, these thieves didn't actually make much.

(17,259 posts)are always on the lookout for stolen stuff. If a customer walked in with a couple dozen of these
bronze WWII markers, they'll be calling the cops.
Could someone have moved it to another nearby grave?

(8,756 posts)And praise Hitler and want his style leadership. Stealing from a WW11 vet is simple to them. May your dad rest in peace and never have to see where his country has gotten to. None of the American soldiers in graves world wide gave their life for where this country is headed. Not one. This vet mourns for your dads sacrifice and the sacrifice his family endures to see the direction we are headed, after all of them gave their lives for much better. This Memorial Day has left a sick place in my heart, for all those that gave, to see our own Government, ya know which part, taking a dump on it all.

(43,416 posts)The now-failing laboratory of Democracy, the global heart of rentier capitalism, all overlayed with the veneer of oligarchic systematic control, is erecting a monster that puts Frankenstein's to shame.
This dastardly theft is but one subatomic level example of a cancer growing stronger, more malignant inside the societal body with each waxing and waning of the moon.

(9,760 posts)Someone stole the brass flower urns from my husband's parents' Graves. (His dad was a vet, as well, but didn't have one of those flag holders.) The thieves stole the urns from all of the Graves in that cemetery. To sell for scrap, it is believed. Despicable.
