The family of the late legendary musician Isaac Hayes has posted an angry tweet lashing former President Donald Trumps use of one of Hayess songs at his controversial speech Friday at the National Rifle Association convention.
The estate and family of Isaac Hayes DID NOT approve and would NEVER approve the use of Hold On Im Coming ... by Donald Trump at this weekends NRA convention, said the tweet.
The tweet added: Our condolences go out to the victims and families of Uvalde and mass shooting victims everywhere.
In a bold display of disrespect, Trump bashed gun control and hailed all firearms in his Friday speech, including the kind of military-style assault weapons that killed 19 children and two teachers in a mass shooting in Uvalde last week.
Trump then mangled the pronunciation of victims names, which he read interspersed with cheesy funeral toll sounds.
Trump wrapped up his speech smiling, with his clenched fists and wooden dance steps to the 1996 song Hold On, Im Coming, written by Hayes and David Porter, and performed by rhythm-and-blues duo Sam and Dave.

(8,387 posts)A blanket license to the entire RIAA catalog for events is pretty cheap.
His family doesnt sit around all day deciding if some DJ can play a song at a wedding reception. Music licensing is a lot simpler than that.

Trump has definitely moved into supervillain territory and his minions love it.

(32,086 posts)Previously, he was closing with to "YMCA." Either he got tired of that, he finally realized what the song was about, or The Village People finally had their request for him to stop using it taken seriously. He has moved on to this song. I doubt it was a part of any package that the MAGAs paid for. Trump has been using music without permission from Day One. Someone needs to tell the Issac Hayes estate that this was not an isolated incident.

NRA/Trump may have purchased rights to play.
