(2,529 posts)Pennsylvania under Mastriano would be a combo of FL and TX and ID and OK. He'll have a republican legislature, a series of laws from these states to play with, and he's angrier than Abbott and DeSantis.

(552 posts)and are easily lied too. With the corporate media, owned by the far right wing claiming both sides are the same, these dumb as fuck Texans continue to vote republican and continue to have a degraded quality of life.

(6,182 posts)This is on the Republican Party, their elected officials, and party leadership.
Doing nothing results in something...a whole lot of dead and wounded people.
We need sensible gun control now, and a total ban on the purchase of military style weapons. This doesn't violate the second amendment, not one bit!
We also need to ban body armor, bump stocks, silencers, large capacity magazines, and hollow point bullets used in these weapons.
We need background checks and red flag laws.
We need to require that all guns be locked up in gun safes.
A buy back program would also be good.
Existing military style weapons need to be registered, and a chain of custody established for them to prevent them being transferred between individuals without police knowledge of where the guns are.
I'm sure there are other things that need to be done to make it more difficult for these guns to be used for terrorists acts like mass murder, and robberies.
This is just a starting point.

(1,560 posts)Since the Right invariably uses hyperbole to say that ANY restrictions on guns is a short step away from confiscating all weapons perhaps O'Rourke could say that Greg Abbott is actively killing children with his policies?
It'd make a helluva campaign ad:
"Want your child to die in a school shooting? Vote for Greg Abbott"

(19,204 posts)the actual number is probably 4 times that. There's probably close to a quarter million people in Texas who shouldn't be in the same zip code as a gun.

(99 posts)We THE PEOPLE, have to do more.
We HAVE to change the US Constitution to force local, county, state and the federal government to "PROTECT" citizens from "private violence". This is what drives the rights refusal to do anything about guns or "private violence". They know that law enforcement "has no legal duty to protect an individual life.
Then the US Supreme Courts ruling that "the state has no legal duty to protect an individual life" can be overturned and our local, state and federal law enforcement WILL HAVE THE DUTY to protect an individual life. Until such time, LEO's firearms are for personal protection and to "keep the peace" and not to protect and defend US citizens.
If the Constitution is not changed via whatever appropriate means necessary, then, WE THE PEOPLE, can only count on being protected from foreign invasion and will have to take into our own hands the very real personal responsibility to protect our lives and property because LEO, municipal, county, state and federal government will not be "duty bound" to protect and defend us.
