Gun Control in Germany

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_control_in_Germany

Firearms ownership license

A firearms ownership license (Waffenbesitzkarte or WBK), or an entry to an existing WBK, is mandatory for each firearm purchased. It entitles owners to purchase firearms and handle them on their own property and any private property with the property owner's consent. On public premises, a licensed firearm must be transported unloaded and in a stable, fully enclosing, locked container. A weapons ownership license does not entitle the owner to shoot the weapon or carry it on public premises without the prescribed container. Owners must obtain mandatory insurance and a means to securely store the weapon on their premises (a weapons locker). Blanket ownership licenses are issued to arms dealers, firearms experts and – with limitations – to collectors. In 2010 there were about four million legal private gun owners.[20]

A number of criteria must be met before a firearms ownership license is issued:

age 18 years (§ 4 WaffG)
trustworthiness (§ 5 WaffG)
personal adequacy (§ 6 WaffG)
expert knowledge (§ 7 WaffG) and
necessity (§ 8 WaffG).

Inheritors of legal firearms can obtain a permit without having to demonstrate expert knowledge or necessity, but without them the firearm has to be blocked by an arms dealer (§ 20 WaffG). An inheritor's license does not include the right to acquire or handle ammunition.

Persons who

are convicted felons
have a record of mental disorder or
are deemed unreliable (this includes people with drug or alcohol addiction histories, and known violent or aggressive persons)

are barred from obtaining a firearms ownership license.

1. All These Other Countries Are Irrelevant

For our Shithhole country has the lovely 2nd Amendment, and a Right Wing Supreme Court.

Hearing about all the sensible limitations other countries impose, only serve to show how much better off we would be if we lived there.

4. My message to 2nd amendment gun addicts.

Feel free to share it and pass it along.

1. Grow up. The Wild West was nearly 2 centuries ago. Get over your cowboy movie fantasies. The Wild West saw it as a sign of progress when people no longer wore gun belts everywhere. Even when they did, there were LAWS and REGULATIONS about not bringing them into saloons, schools, churches, banks, and government offices.

2. The 2nd amendment refers to militias for a reason. When it was written, states (and colonies prior to that) had "well regulated militias" of citizens that government called upon for emergency situations to keep order or defend against outsider attacks. They met regularly to train and had ranking officers in charge. They answered to local governments and did not operate as rogue anti government agencies. Their 18th century role is now served by a standing "militia" called the National Guard. The 2nd amendment's stated purpose, to enable a call up of trained citizen militias is obsolete.

3. All rights and liberties in the constitution are subject to rules and regulations. Free speech, for example, does not include a right to incite violence. It does not include the right to slander or libel others with impunity. So gun ownership is also subject to rules and regulations to protect the rights of citizens to live freely without random gun murders, slaughters, and terrorism of citizens.

4. Get over the paranoid idea that you need guns to protect you from "the government." We live in a republic, which is a representative democracy. That means that YOU are the government. Participate through voting, party membership, and promotion of ideas through public discussions, not through the force of guns in government offices as threats. In today's world, even an AR15 is puny against a bomb or drone, so get over childish fantasies of being a modern day Minuteman.

elected representatives in Congress.

The majority of Americans approve of some gun control measures, but there are still red districts where people vote for conservatives on other issues and those elected conservatives also oppose gun controls. Make gun control such a major, motivating issue that candidates (even conservative ones) cannot win if they refuse to support gun control.

We make it a motivating issue with exposure of how Senators and House Reps vote on gun issues. We make it a motivating issue by publicizing the horrors and gore of mass shootings, of children cowering under tables in a classroom while their teacher and classmates are slaughtered.

Publicize over and over the little girl who survived because she smeared the blood of her dead friend on herself to play dead. We publicize the angry personal fights that occur in public places, killing innocent bystanders.

We repeat, over and over and over "Vote them out!" regarding legislators who refuse to act on gun control.

We make a huge effin deal about it and don't let up until conservative legislators and candidates are afraid to oppose gun control.

We do not give up. Abolitionists fought for decades against slavery and finally won. Women fought for decades for rape to be treated seriously as a crime and finally won. Even though there are still misogynistic judges and DAs who treat rape lightly, the outcry against them forces them to recant or be driven out.

We keep on fighting and do not accept defeat, even when there are setbacks. We make it happen.
