Has Texas Turned on Greg Abbott?

Abbott is an asshole. Abbot was an toxic tort defense attorney who bragged about cheating widows and orphans out what was due to them. Abbott was helped in his first race by the Texas voter suppression law during the one election cycle where that law was in effect without court ordered changes. Greg got more votes than Perry but Wendy Davis got less votes than Bill White (a good man but a very boring man)

In 2018 the Texas Democratic Party was unable to recruit a strong candidate and so Greg ran against a very weak candidate. The party tried to get one of the Castro brothers to run but they each refused and in the process burned some bridges in the party.

It now appears that Texas has turned on Greg Abbott

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was met with boos and jeers when he arrived in Uvalde on Sunday, days after the deadliest school shooting in the state's history.

"We need change, governor," a man can be heard shouting in a video of the moment that has since gone viral.

Abbott, a Republican, has faced heavy criticism since an 18-year-old gunman with an AR-15-style rifle opened fire inside Robb Elementary School on May 24, killing 19 children and two teachers.

Abbott skipped a National Rifle Association's convention in Houston and headed to Uvalde amid mounting criticism for loosening gun laws after Texas experienced a string of mass shootings in recent years.

The freeze, the border, the nastiness, it doesn't seem to matter. Like Perry and Bush before him they think that their version of God, Guns, and Gays is what is important. For the latest Primary election we had 3.23% turnout for Dems and 12.1% for GOP. We are so gerrymandered that our vote literally doesn't count. They have "packed" the districts so only a token number of Dems could possibly win. For the Statewide races of Gov. and AG it's all about turnout and sadly I think a lot of people have given up.

Texas hasn't had a statewide elected Democrat since 1994. You could go to the local beer joint and pick someone and if they had (R) next to their name they would get elected.

It's been happening here since the 80's each time another POS like Sam Brownback nearly bankrupts the State. I'd hope people in Texas take a damn minute, hour, day to think about what Abbott has done.

Laura Kelly is up for election this year and IMO she will win once again. She had to fight POS Republicans in the State House every step of the way when Covid fired up in 2020. She clearly saved lives.

After many more school shootings, with his actions always being hardening schools . He wasted billions on the border , while reducing mental health care spending , and spent little on protecting school children. He always has an excuse.

Abbott killed hundreds from his grid disaster, and going to kill women from his abortion policies. His immigration policies are also a disaster. His keeping healthcare from people is wrong. I hope the DOJ needs to watch the Texas election closely because he will corrupt it , again to win. Abbott is a disaster for Texas, and I sure hope more than enough people wake up and vote this bum out of office.

With Texas it’s a war of attrition. Slowly we have seen more and more voting blue. I think that republicans will take Texas for granted and eventually watch it become purple.

Though maybe I’m being far too optimistic.

is Republicans will be so disgusted with him that either they don't show up and vote or they leave the Gov line on the ballot blank. Maybe that's enough for him to loose the election, then again maybe its not. I don't see die-hard Republicans voting for Beto under any circumstances.

who despite his being charged for securities fraud in 2015 (and current allegations of bribery and abuse of office) yet has never seen a court date. He is arguably far more powerful than Abbott as President of the Texas Senate and is independent of the governor's office in Texas--not merely a secondary office as in most states.

So, where does his election stand? Democrat Mike Collier will face off with Patrick, but it is not clear he will be more competitive than four years ago when he lost by 4% points. He definitely needs some help.

Just replacing Abbott is not enough.
