decided to preemptively strike at the heart of local Law Enforcement? With a surprise attack of AR-15s? Probably a mass slaughter that would require the state police and national guard.
But if we got to that point, then sides would start to be chosen in all levels of government.

(30,540 posts)at a hotel. Some dumb ass came in with a gun to rob them (apparently he didn't know it was a police gathering) the cops shot him dead immediately. I don't know about their support for a ban I just thought it interesting how quick they were on the trigger.

Once that tipping point is reached, once most Americans have personal experience of the consequences of gun violence, then suddenly the subject will matter, and suddenly something will be done.

and see what the reaction is, THEN....
