(19,068 posts)Especially on DU. Isn't fame, wealth, and power by birthright anti Democratic in every way?
I mean, I can see why Republicans would be fascinated with royalty as they crave most a strong man to rule over them, but the idea is grotesque to me.

(24,931 posts)I don't get it. The royals aren't that popular in Wales and Scotland for obvious reasons.

As a profoundly anti-monarchic British and Swedish citizen (and a US citizen by birth as well) I find it all so very problematic and disappointing.

(6,837 posts)Much preferable to Trumps nestlings. How many Americans harbor the misinformation that such as they were a model for anything of value. Americans could benefit from an opportunity to peruse an example which the people could come to expect of themselves. May sound hokey, I understand, but this freedom from monarchy which we enjoy allows for an aspiration to attain graciousness. A quality I see missing in much of our day to day interactions.

(4,616 posts)Why, especially here on DU, people judge so absolutely about something they aren't even a part of and has no bearing on their daily lives.

(81,322 posts)Ive cried enough over the news and other stuff lately. I can use a dose of frippery, fancy clothes, and FUN. Like watching a real-life soap opera with real-life fabulous jewelry.
Sometimes its just necessary.

(3,150 posts)Look at all those who watch TV about celebrities', or watch sports teams whose scores have absolutely no outcome on the person's life.
It's just entertainment. Maybe in the case of the Royals with the hope that you might get a leader who is above party, above politics, above wealth or poverty and is born, raised, lives and dies only desiring what is best for their people (not that this is likely to happen, but compared to a system where even the best person has to DESIRE power enough to deal with all the bullshit of getting elected...).
Some like 'Keeping up with the Kardisians', some like football, some like the royal family. no real difference.

(47,487 posts)Who cares that the (real) royals may be racists? And posts about the visits by Megan and Harry still rise to the top of the high Recs.
At least the real royals take their responsibilities seriously, they know that the institution is important for most Brits.

(24,736 posts)Absolute randomness and THEFT of public resources has propelled this admittedly cute little kid into a life where his every want will be satisfied.
No merit at all.
Now, QE DID step into her place in history during WWII. I'll grant that.

(19,068 posts)They live in luxury because of what their ancestors took from the people. They earn money now by having money managers manage the wealth their predecessors accumulated by claiming lands and wealth for themselves.

You do know the history of how the Windsors amassed their wealth, yeah?
Don't need to be a Brit to know that!
One article, for example.

(7,290 posts)I had four boys, and this is normal little boy behavior. I think he's adorable. Did you see when Kate gently pulled his thumb out of his mouth when it started wandering in? lol
Talitha
(6,593 posts)No I didn't see his thumb (just the still-photos so far) but will watch for it over the weekend when there's time to see the video footage. Thanks for the heads-up!
BTW, I think Diana would be proud of the way her grandkids are being raised, and am hoping her soul rejoiced when Harry and his family got the hell away from the 'Firm' that she hated so much.
