has there been another school massacre at this point in the election cycle before? (Original Post) mopinko Jun 2022 OP
I'm incredulous this is even a question. Hugin Jun 2022 #1

I think it's key, though, that we've had several shootings during an election year primary season. Gidney N Cloyd Jun 2022 #5
Mass shootings are kind of a constant. We've had more in 2022 than we've had sunrises. Bucky Jun 2022 #6

The White-Right will be totally unaffected. Even if a larger massacre happened a few days before the elections. In fact, it may motivate more right-wingers to vote to protect themselves from the Democrats that are "coming for their guns." The latest murder of children will be in the rear-view mirror long before the elections. Odds are that there will be another one before we go to the polls...

Republicans have people who stay up nights fabricating excuses for gun violence. They have a willingly receptive audience. In a recent post we see a Republican leader blaming the mass murders on abortions.

By the time of the general election, the Uvalde shooting will not even register as the faintest blip on most voters’ radar.

The election is almost certainly going to hinge on the economy, inflation, the cost of groceries and, maybe most importantly, the cost of gas. Social problems (if you can call gun violence a social problem) almost always take a back seat to economic problems.

Many, importantly, in red states-- Texas, Louisiana (2), Tennessee, Iowa, Kansas, Georgia. And now Tulsa. When I scan over the list of historic shootings, this cluster in this time period sticks out. Politicians in primaries can't ignore them and their public reactions, statements, grandstanding, etc., go right into the oppo ad hopper to live on.
