(32,864 posts)Excellent speech, concisely and powerfully lays it out at their feet. This is how every Dem should be speaking in front of the cameras. Pin it on the Rs, point blank.
The Superman coffin image was especially well placed
the vivid pathos and the irony.

(31,519 posts)when I was a child that age. What are these shootings doing to the kids?

(23,322 posts)he was in a multi story school building for the first time. He asked me "if someone starts shooting in my school, should I hide or should I jump out a window? Could my doctor fix my broken legs easier than she could fix a bullet hole?" I recall being stunned and sick to my stomach.

What did you say to him? (Don't answer if you would rather not.)

(23,322 posts)The only thing I could think of in the moment was that we should make an appointment to talk to his homeroom teacher and the principal together about his worries (and mine). We met with them and decided that we were confident that his teacher would know what to do if a shooter entered his middle school. He told me he wouldn't jump out a window. That said, this is why I advocate for kids to be able to have their cell phones on their person at school. Teachers get to make the rules about when and if they can be used in class...but I want my son to be able to reach me should something like this ever happen. In fact, his high school went into lock down last fall when a student was said to have entered the school with a firearm. That student was taken into custody and charges were later filed...but in those scary couple of hours, I was able to text with my kiddo. Imagine if that had been our last opportunity to talk?

(23,322 posts)BUT, as disturbing as it was, at least we were talking about it. I wanted him to know that we can talk about anything even if it is upsetting and scary. Still, in my heart of hearts, it pisses me off that our children have to live like this.

(6,890 posts)I was expecting,"Mommy, what does it feel like to doe?" which a diifferent kid asked in the wake of Uvalde.
I'll bet there are other questions equalliy poignant. Quite a print or TV ad could be made out of a string of them.

(358 posts)The Democrats need to rub their noses in it. None of that "now is not the time to get political" BS.
Republicans who say now isnt the time to be political, are being political by saying that.

(5,969 posts)More Dems need to destroy Repubs with clear and easily understandable points.
Repubs fight for the next killer to kill as many children as possible.
