What Im seeing from my own case and other cases is this one-two punch going on with this subvariant, BA 2.12. It is SO transmissible. I joked once that you just need to look at it askance from across the room and youll get it. Its more transmissible than omicron, which was more transmissible than delta which was more transmissible than alpha, which was more transmissible than the original lineage. Its getting up there where its maybe as transmissible as measles, with a reproductive number of 12 or something. And measles is the most transmissible virus agent we know about. An individual in a room can infect 12 other people if unvaccinated. If youre vaccinated and boosted, its unlikely youll get seriously ill (with COVID), but youll get what I had, which is feeling sick, cold and flu symptoms.

(3,030 posts)It shows no signs of going away and, that being the case, maybe the best we can hope for is for strains which spread super-fast but produce mild disease. That will allow Covid waves to appear and disappear very quickly and allow herd immunity + vaccines to combat it.

(10,429 posts)I'm just getting over it. On my last dose of Paxlovid. I was on a cruise where everyone was required to be vaxxed. However, about 1/3 of the people that attended the conference that my husband and I did on the cruise ship came down it it. We didn't find out until we got home. My husband starting showing symptoms first, on Tuesday. Although, truth be told, he was having trouble breathing on the plane home on Monday. I started having symptoms on Tuesday afternoon, but didn't test positive until Thursday. Even the doctor at the urgent care had come down with it. So yeah, it's definitely transmissible.
I'm just glad that we are vaxxed and double-boosted. All I had was cold and flu symptoms. However, my husband had more of a problem with the Paxlovid making him nauseous.
