Fetterman's health, return to campaign trail a mystery as some Democrats grow 'very nervous'

There are a good number of Democrats who are very worried about Fetterman's health

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/fettermans-health-return-campaign-trail-mystery-democrats-grow-nervous-rcna31645

Pennsylvania Democratic Senate nominee John Fetterman does not have a timetable for returning to the campaign trail, sparking some worries in the party nearly three weeks after he suffered a stroke and surgeons implanted a pacemaker with a defibrillator to regulate his heartbeat.

Fetterman, the state’s lieutenant governor, has appeared publicly only in recorded video since the stroke. His wife is speaking to the media on his behalf. And the situation has prompted Democrats to refresh their knowledge of state ballot-replacement law — the deadline is in August — according to two party sources who said they don’t anticipate a candidate switch being necessary......

There has been “no indication” of a timeline for Fetterman’s return to the trail, said an elected Pennsylvania Democrat who has interacted with Fetterman. “A lot of us Democratic Party types are very nervous about it.” The official, who asked not to be named to avoid blowback from his party, said Fetterman needs to be transparent both because it’s the right thing to do and good politics.....

The careful statements from Fetterman’s campaign since his stroke and surgery have done little to answer lingering questions about his health or whether he has fully disclosed the scope of his heart condition. Several cardiologists told The Philadelphia Inquirer last week that defibrillators are not used to treat atrial fibrillation, the irregular heart rhythm that the campaign has said led to Fetterman’s stroke. In an interview with Politico, Gisele Fetterman said doctors found no new heart issues during a Wednesday follow-up with the physicians who treated his stroke.

I would urge the Fetterman campaign to make full disclosure and provide Fetterman's doctors to answer questions about Fetterman's health

I hope he's doing well, that this is not a serious thing, and that he wins the seat big in November. I am NOT anti-Fetterman.

But transparency is always better, IMO. IF (and that's a HUGE if) his condition is worse than is being stated, that needs to come out now, from him and his campaign, not three or four months from now via opposition research. Bad or not great news can be addressed, but when it looks as though something has been hidden? Bad look.

More than this website, I see this everywhere about Fetterman. Your comments tend to call out members of this website, but it’s all over the internet. Oh, and before you jump to conclusions, I’ve not followed Pennsylvania anything, so no accusations please.

Highest Democratic officials, state and national, and not just from his campaign, should share info and either reassure, disclose, or make a backup plan if one is needed.

Maybe they should ask a doctor about it.

Implantable cardioverter defibrillator

An implantable cardioverter defibrillator is a device for people who are prone to life-threatening rapid heart rhythms. It is slightly larger than a pacemaker and usually is implanted beneath the skin below the collarbone. It is connected to a defibrillation/pace wire(s) positioned inside the heart via a vein. It has the capability of delivering an electric shock to the heart when it determines the heart rate is too fast. It also is capable of pacing or stimulating the heart when it is going too slow.

https://www.ucsfhealth.org/conditions/atrial-fibrillation/treatment

An implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) looks similar to a pacemaker, though slightly larger. It works very much like a pacemaker. But the ICD can send an energy shock that resets an abnormal heartbeat back to normal. Many devices combine a pacemaker and ICD in one unit for people who need both functions.

Well that's persuasive. Although the official's anonymity makes it difficult to gauge just what the unnamed official's credibility and judgment on what is the right thing to do, and what is good politics.

According to Politico, the Fetterman campaign is not allowing Fetterman's doctors speak as to Fetterman's condition.

I hope that there is nothing to hide. I personally believe in full disclosure and this Follcall article explains why full disclosure is needed to protect voters.

https://rollcall.com/2022/05/25/an-rx-for-politicians-full-medical-disclosure/

The 52-year-old Fetterman celebrated on primary night from a hospital bed, as he recovered from a recent stroke. Even though Fetterman was released from the hospital Sunday, there has been no word about when the Democratic nominee will resume campaigning or how vigorous he will be when he does.

The New York Times, in an article by Gina Kolata and Katie Glueck, raised questions about Fetterman’s medical situation and the pace of his recovery. As the Times reported, “Specialists in stroke, heart disease and electrophysiology said that some of the campaign’s public statements do not offer a sufficient explanation for Mr. Fetterman’s described diagnosis or the treatment they say he has received.”....

Medical privacy is a cherished right, and it is understandable that men and women running for high office are reluctant to release their intimate medical histories. That may explain why the Fetterman campaign has been so elusive about the details of the candidate’s stroke.

The problem is that America has a long history of presidents and other top officials dissembling or even outright lying about their medical conditions. .....

Alas, it is nearly impossible to legislate medical honesty. Back in 2015, Trump’s doctor, Harold Bornstein, released an over-the-top letter claiming that the overweight reality TV star “will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.” It turns out (shocking revelation ahead) that Trump himself wrote the letter.

But the voters should demand full medical disclosure from candidates for major office — especially after a serious event like a stroke or heart attack. The health of the nation requires the full truth, even when the details are not what the doctor ordered.

I am personally praying that Fetterman is okay and can get back onto the campaign trail to beat Dr. Oz or the other GOP asshole. We need to win as many Penn. races as possible and I am really worried about the Penn. Governor's race. If the GOP controls the governor office in 2024, we can kiss winning Penn. electoral votes goodbye.

Read the articles from Roll Call, NBC News and the Hill. It is clear that the amusing, but sad attacks set forth above do not affect the facts cited in these articles. Thank you for the laughs.

I cited these twitter posts to provide good links to the source material being cited. While I may agree with some of the opinions expressed, these opinions are meaningless if one lives in the real world where there is a concept called the rule of evidence. There is a course in law school called evidence (a course that I AmJured (look this term up) in and such course deals with what evidence is relevant to a debate or disputed claim. Opinion evidence from a non-expert is meaningless. I was citing the facts recited in these materials including the fact that Fetterman has not let his doctors explain his actual physical condition and the fact that it is wrong to trust politicians as to claims about their health based on actual examples. I really do NOT care if you dislike a source because you are always wrong in your claims and your non-expert opinion on any issue is simply an opinion that would not be admissible in court in the world that I live in. On this thread I have cited NBC News (an article authored by three real reporters), Roll Call and The Hill at to basic facts that are relevant to the issues. Your amusing attempt to attack the twitter posters who posted these articles has no effect on the facts set forth in these sources.

Please understand that I am amused every time you pull this stunt. The last time was your attacks on various sources who do not like the Justice Democrats, Our Revolution, Brand New Congress, Momentum and their affiliates. The material cited by these sources contained quotes from the members of the Justice Democrat group or affiliates where such members clearly state that they hate the Democratic Party and want to destroy and remake the Democratic Party in their own image. I was not citing these sources for the opinions expressed but I was relying on the facts recited. These sources had great links to quotes from member of the Justic Democrat and other groups and these quotes are the facts that were relevant to this discussion.

Have fun. Again, go ahead and continue your attacks on sources you dislike while ignoring the facts being cited in such posts. Such attacks are really amusing

After about three weeks he's pretty much back to normal. At first slept all day, slowly regained strength and stamina. It's not just bounce out of the hospital and rush to get back to it! He simply needs a bit of time. Everyone needs to relax. Seriously. Deep breath. He's fine, just needs a bit of rest.

My husband's had a fully recovery, no long-term damage at all, so he's very lucky.

Need to chill out and calm down. Instead of howling about Fetterman's medical incident which was addressed in a timely manner, medically attended to and now in the recuperative, follow-up stage, we all need to be concentrating on the upcoming election. The wringing of hands and continued OH NOES, THE SKY IS FALLING or whispering about ballot-replacement laws does not help anyone including the 'Woe is Me' crowd.

You think John Fetterman and his team don't realize how important this Senate seat is? You think they aren't working behind the scenes, raising money, tightening the message, targeting the widest demographic for the campaign ahead, getting surrogates prepared and ready, so they'll be able to hit the trail and airways in a gallop?

The Republicans are still fighting over ballots for God's sake. Mail-in ballots at that. They're not running an active campaign; they're wrangling with the courts with a bevy of lawyers.

We've got a great nominee who I'm certain will alleviate all the questions, anxiety, concerns, etc. of the worry-warts when he's ready to do so. Until then, we could at least give the man the time and space to regain his energy and stamina. This will be a hard, nasty race. I want John Fetterman at 110%, ready to light the sky on fire.

The medical disclosure is/will be important. But right now? John Fetterman getting up to full-speed is more important.

Patience.

John Fetterman got a defibrillator after his stroke. But doctors say the campaign’s story 'doesn’t make sense'

PHILADELPHIA — It’s been more than a week since Lt. Gov. John Fetterman celebrated his win in Pennsylvania’s Democratic Senate primary from a Lancaster hospital, where he was recovering from a stroke and the implantation of a combination defibrillator-pacemaker. But the campaign’s explanation of his medical treatment doesn’t entirely make sense, according to cardiologists.

pretty sure Lancaster General docs would have moved his care to a closer cardiac specialists at UPMC or AHN. It's about a 3 hour drive one way to Lancaster. Docs wouldn't be asking him to make that trip if there were any issues.

Three weeks off the campaign trail is nothing to panic about. Fetterman spent about 5 days in the hospital for treatment of a blood clot, then surgery for an ICD before being released to home. Had a loved one get a pacemaker who was told no strenous activity for 2 weeks afterward after coming home.
