Lead Trump impeachment lawyer joins crowded New York House Democratic primary
by Virginia Aabram, Congressional Reporter | June 01, 2022 01:52 PM
Attorney Daniel Goldman, the top lawyer for Democrats during former President Donald Trump's first impeachment trial, is jumping into a crowded primary for a redrawn New York City House district.
Goldman is joining a field of 10 other Democratic candidates, including a sitting House member, a former House lawmaker, and the most recent New York City mayor. The race will likely highlight rifts within the party, and the winning candidate only needs a plurality of the vote to advance to the general in the heavily Democratic district.
Rep. Mondaire Jones, who currently represents New York's 17th District in Westchester County, announced he would run in the new 10th District after Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Sean Patrick Maloney said he would run in the 17th District, where his home now resides, instead of the 18th District that he currently represents. Jones is one of the most active freshmen in terms of legislation and support from the progressive wing of his party.
Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is also running in the 10th District, as well as New York Assemblywoman Yuh-Line Niou, state Sen. Brad Hoylman, and former Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman. The primary election be will on Aug. 23.

Goldman's bio is unmatched, for the threats we're facing. He is a much needed addition to our House committees.

Right now, everything is at stake: the right to choose, the right to vote, the right for all people to reclaim the American Dream. I have fought Donald Trump and the Republicans before and I spent a decade fighting crime in New York City. I feel compelled to get back in the trenches to lead the battles to protect and defend our democracy, preserve and expand our fundamental rights, and reduce crime and gun violence.
