Here is the training manual a U.S. Marine must study before acquiring a firearm. Yet an 18-year-old can just walk into the store, no questions asked.

(2,654 posts)I wonder how Mr. Fontes would answer the argument that keeping and bearing arms also refers to personal self defense against criminal harm.
If you dismantle the "each person is the militia" argument, you need to be ready to address personal self defense as a Constitutional guarantee. Because that is what inevitably follows from every proponent attempting to justify guns and ammunition in the hands of the public.

(66 posts)The only thing that matters is what the Supreme Court says. According to the Supreme Court, the 2nd Amendment has 2 parts. The first part reads, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State,". That is the only part that is about the militia. The second part says, "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." You may not agree with that, but only the Supreme Court can say what any part of the Consitution means.

(3,707 posts)The Court makes a decision, let them enforce it. Supreme Court decisions are not absolute. The next Court can change its mind.
It only takes two deaths/ resignations now to re-balance the court back to 4-5 and 5-4 idiot-ologies.
Georgia and Jackson set the precedent of ignoring the court.
The Court made up its unconstitutional right to determine constitutionality.
The Supreme Court was created to be the last court of appeal in determining application of legislative law, not to be a legislative veto.
That power belongs to the executive.
America today is based on a 19th century slight-of-hand theft of a non-existent sham-constitutional power.

(3,707 posts)In the military guns ARE well regulated.
You are 18 and want to shoot a high-power gun at people, join the military.
However, there is no guarantee you will go to battle and fulfill your dream.
