Avenatti, already jailed, gets 2.5 more year for cheating Stormy Daniels of $300K from her book sale

Avenatti, Already Jailed, Gets Even More Prison Time
Disgraced lawyer receives 2.5 years for cheating Stormy Daniels

Michael Avenatti was sentenced Thursday to four years in prison for cheating client Stormy Daniels of hundreds of thousands of dollars in book proceeds. The California lawyer, currently incarcerated, learned his fate in Manhattan federal court, where Judge Jesse M.

said the sentence will mean that Avenatti will spend another 2 1/2 years in prison on top of the 2 1/2 years he is already serving after another fraud conviction. The judge said Avenatti's crime against Daniels was made “out of desperation” when his law firm was struggling, per the AP. He called Avenatti's behavior “craven and egregious" and blamed it on “blind ambition.”

Prior to sentencing being announced, Avenatti, wearing his prison uniform, choked up several times as he delivered a lengthy statement, saying he had “disappointed scores of people and failed in a cataclysmic way.”

At trial earlier this year, Avenatti represented himself, cross-examining his former client for hours about their experiences in early 2018, when she signed a book deal that provided an $800,000 payout. Prosecutors said he illegally pocketed about $300,000 of her advance on Full Disclosure, published in fall 2018. The book's publication came at a time when Avenatti's law practice was failing financially even as he appeared regularly on cable television news channels.

He had a very sketchy reputation in the legal world in California.

I ended up feeling sorry for Stormy, a porn star who made no pretense of what she was or what her ambitions were. Porn actresses age out eventually, and she had plans to be a director and own her own business.

It’s a world away from anything I’d want to do, but it’s legal, and she was honest about it. That Trump sent a thug to threaten her and her baby was beyond horrifying (literally, “Such a cute baby. It would be a shame if she didn’t have a mother” )

And then she met Avenatti. Ye gods.

really did her wrong. Stormi deserved better representation when she was in combat with the president. All that Avenatti did was self serving to pump up his ego and sense of self-importance.

Difference is, we didn’t stay fooled and aren’t so afraid of looking like fools we double down and support him anyway.

Sheesh.

I had a hard time believing people here couldn't see right through him. While looking for Avenatti for president threads I ran across descriptions of him using words such as honest, humble . . .

It was very disconcerting to see people so excited about him. I felt like I was living a different reality, as it was obvious to me he was a grifter.

are so obviously used for self promotion.

There are Lefty and Righty twitter feeds that symbiotically respond to one another to drive interaction and views. (Think Occupy Democrats and Andy Ngo. Patriot Takes is another lefty twitter feed that uses the insane words of people like Marjoie Taylor Green to feed their feed and thrive.)

Avenatti was one of those early adopters. Amplify Trump's insanity to feed himself. He grew a following because he was seen as a fighter, saying what we wanted to to trump. In the meanwhile, he was collecting money from clients like Daniels... while not representing their best interests. IT was all a political con job to become more famous.

I think he was saying publicly what we all wanted to say to Trump. That's hard not to embrace when you're feeling like you're living in a different reality than all the people who voted for Trump
