LONDON (AP) LONDON Buckingham Palace says Queen Elizabeth II will not attend a church service to mark her Platinum Jubilee after experiencing discomfort at events on Thursday.
The palace says that with great reluctance the 96-year-old monarch has decided to skip Fridays service at St. Pauls Cathedral.
The palace says the queen greatly enjoyed todays Birthday Parade and Flypast but did experience some discomfort.
Britain is marking the monarchs 70 years on the throne with four days of events.

(25,862 posts)She is clearly a lot shorter than she used to be.
But she's 96 years old, and while in good health, she needs to be cautious about things.
I do recall reading some decades ago that those around the Queen were not to go to work if they had a cold or anything, so as to protect her from getting the same. I wonder if that actually reduced her immune system, given she wasn't able to get colds and the like and build up immunity.
I'm the very healthiest person I know. In early childhood I lived in a low-income housing place, played with neighborhood children. I was also the 3rd of 6 children. My kindergarten year of school I was sick a lot. Missed lots of days of school, but back then kindergarten was really more of getting ready to attend school. We needed to be able to read the alphabet by the end of the year, but no actual reading was taught. Nor was any kind of arithmetic. Anyway, I made it through kindergarten, and in first grade I missed only one day of school.
I'm old enough that I went through measles, mumps, chicken pox, and rubella, as well as several bouts of influenza. Got the polio vaccine. Over the next couple of decades I got my share of colds, and various other unidentified illnesses.
I'm now 73 and I'm the healthiest person I know. Last got flu in the mid-70s. Don't bother with a flu vaccine, and for those of you who do, please know that it is most effective if you get it every other year. Research this.
I honestly think that one reason I'm so healthy is that I got so many things when I was younger. I have an amazing immune system, lucky me.
As for the queen, she's 96 years old, which is an accomplishment all by itself. She needs to be very cautious about everything. I sincerely wish her a long life. Her own mother lived to be 101, so the queen may have a few more years left in her. God Save the Queen.

(8,287 posts)She's 96 and more active than any 90 year old I know. I don't know how she does it.
I never really respected the royal family but that woman has given her life to service for 70 years! 70 Years! Some of us don't even live that long and she's still working!
She's lost a remarkable amount of weight in the past year. I would imagine that she puts on her smiling face and then goes and lays down. I wished that they would take in her clothes so they don't look so baggy on her. Poor thing.
Much respect.
