The Committee on Oversight and Reform is investigating whether you have improperly traded on your government position to obtain billions of dollars from the Saudi government and whether your personal financial interests improperly influenced U.S. foreign policy during the administration of your father-in-law, former President Trump. This investigation will inform the Committee about whether federal ethics laws should be strengthened to prevent senior public officials from taking advantage of their position within the federal government to reap a financial windfallbefore, during, or after government employment,

Emphasis mine
Got grift all over it. Of course he improperly traded his position - it would never have occurred to him not to.
Question is - what will be the real repercussions? If it is not jail, impoverishment and disgrace what is the point?

(16,254 posts)If all these loans were personal or personal business, Jared and Mnuchin should be charged for all those flights to the Middle East on our dime, in addition to the fines and jail time. Was it Mnuchin who made 18 trips? I think they both made last minute trips before the end of Trump's reign.

(43,049 posts)paperwork fixed up after the fact. He learned nothing from his father.
I doubt many in congress forgot he bought a billion dollar building at the top of the market and couldn't make the payments. As the market slid, he kept looking at bills and bank rejections until he made an "official" trip to the oil gulf and miraculously found financing. All this while he couldn't pass a security check.
Him and the rest of his new family deserve nothing better than spending time in a rat infested hell hole.
If the guys who made out in Teapot Dome actually had any real balls, they could have made out as well as Trump's greedy offal.

The ex post facto financing of his schemes by the Saudis is one thing. Tying them to specific actions taken during the Trump regime or to promises made regarding favorable treatment in arms sales or access to nuclear energy assets may show a more dangerous element to this.

(5,940 posts)I don't think a House investigative committee has any authority to mete out punishment, such as the prison sentence that I believe is deserved.
Similarly, the House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection has stated that its purpose is to find out what happened and how it can be prevented from happening again.
Other DU'ers more knowledgeable than me can hopefully fill in more detail as to the parameters and purposes required when forming a House investigative committee.
