'Whatever I want with my guns': GOP lawmaker pulls out handguns during House hearing on gun control
Candy Woodall
USA TODAY, June 2, 2022
WASHINGTON Florida Congressman Greg Steube pulled out multiple handguns during a House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday aimed at curbing mass shootings.
The Republican congressman appeared by video conference from his Florida home, arguing that Democrats are trying to strip Americans' constitutional right to bear arms by restricting the ammunition they use.
"Don't let them fool you that they're not attempting to take away your ability to purchase handguns," Steube said. "They are using the magazine ban to do it."
The congressman said his Sig Sauer P365 XL comes with a 15-round magazine and would be banned if the Democrats' "Protecting Our Kids Act" passes. The congressman also said the Glock 19 would be banned.

The display of weapons added to the tension of a legislative hearing packed with partisan and personal broadsides over an issue that has deeply divided Ameicans (sic).

(14,909 posts)Look at this would-be murderers earnest expression, where he attended a Turning Points USA event and asked (just hours after the Boise Towne Square shooting): Charlie Kirk when he would get to start killing political opponents.
When do we get to use the guns? The police should be able to take that guys guns.
BY BRYAN CLARK
The Idaho Statesman, OCTOBER 28, 2021
Excerpt
The main speaker was Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of Turning Points. Kirks hucksterism is obvious. He is a traveling salesman at heart.
Snip
According to the nonprofit organizations tax filings, Kirk was paid about $330,000 last year. Turning Points reported earning about $10.3 million from fundraising events, more than a quarter of its total revenue for 2020.
Snip
The man, claiming the state had fallen into tyranny, asked Kirk: When do we get to use the guns? to applause and cheers from many in the audience.
Then, to remove any doubt that this aspiring Brownshirt wasnt being metaphorical or facetious but was, in fact, asking when to start murdering political opponents, he continued: Thats not a joke. Im not saying it like that. I mean, literally, where is the line? How many elections are they going to steal before we kill these people?
Kirk did not respond with a simple message like: Terrorism is wrong. You shouldnt do it. Instead, he cast political violence as a tactical blunder. It would play into the hand of the same hidden media-deepstate-Democrat forces trying to institute tyranny by installing Joe Biden as president, he claimed.

The Nazification of the Republican Party
By Loretta J. Ross
Counterpunch, Jan. 20, 2021
After World War II, the Nazis who helped Hitler rise to power and murder millions of people, including at least 6 million Jews, were put on trial to send a warning to the world. Not all of them faced a judicial process, but enough were not protected by their high status, official offices, or claims of innocence and patriotism. Power through violence was the only language they spokenot justice, not freedomand they were held accountable. These criminals faced a tribunal at Nürnberg (Nuremberg) so momentous that the disgraced word Nazi is forever attached to those who participated in and enabled their horrific crimes.
After the war, Germany banned Nazi flags and neo-Nazis. In fact, the only way that Nazi paraphernalia got into Germany was through smuggling from other countries such as the United States, like from Nazi propagandist Gerhard Lauck in Nebraska, the man called the Farm Belt Führer who served four years in a German prison for distributing banned pro-Nazi materials throughout Europe.
I know this because I teach a course on White Supremacy at Smith College that focuses on anti-Semitism, anti-Black racism, and the many intersecting components of white supremacist ideology. After more than 30 years of organizing and teaching about fascism as a Black feminist activist and academic, I know the destructive influence of these noxious ideas, and I teach young people how to interpret and resist them.
Global contempt for the word Nazi is a lesson for us today in the United States after the attempted criminal coup at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Anyone identified as sympathetic, supportive, or financing these seditious acts that attempted to deny the peaceful transfer of power in our country should be treated with the same public condemnation that the Nazis received after World War II. This includes Nazified people in Congress, in the media, in universities, in regular jobs, and throughout society because fascism is not the fevered dream of one delusional man. Trump is a white supremacist; that he is also a deranged narcissist is really incidental.

Their plans and intentions are clear, Steube added of Democrats. They want to take away law-abiding citizens ability to purchase the firearm of their choice. And dont let them fool you that they are not attempting to take away your ability to purchase handguns. They are using the magazine ban to do it.

Arizona GOP asks followers: "Are you willing to die to overturn election results?"
Arizona GOP asks followers if they're willing to die in effort to overturn election results
Maria Polletta and Andrew Oxford
Arizona Republic, Dec. 8, 2020
The Arizona Republican Party has asked its followers if they are willing to die for the cause of overturning the presidential election results, eliciting alarm and criticism in response.
The party's official Twitter account on Monday night shared a post from Ali Alexander, an activist with an organization called "Stop the Steal" that has protested election results.
"I am willing to give my life for this fight," Alexander wrote. When sharing the post, the GOP asked followers: "He is. Are you?"
The GOP then posted a clip from the movie "Rambo", highlighting the quote: This is what we do, who we are. Live for nothing, or die for something.
Many people saw the social media post as the latest escalation in violent rhetoric this campaign season as election officials face threats from the presidents supporters following his defeat in the state and as he continues to push unsuccessfully to overturn the results of the race.

Navigating a Post-Group World
Guhl and Davey, in a study of Telegram published in early 2020, defined a post-organisational paradigm as one wherein an online connection to extremist culture and ideology could be equally important for inspiring violence as connections to on the ground groups. The pair cited a wave of white supremacist terror attacks across the globe in 2018 and 2019 the latter of which was named the most lethal year for domestic violent extremism in the United States since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, according to the Department of Homeland Security as emblematic of this shift.
Davey said in an email that these findings were based on a network analysis of different channels on the platform sharing each others content.
Crucially we found that [Telegram] channels which were associated more broadly with the sharing of extremist memes and general discussion were connected into channels which were focused more explicitly on violent activity, suggesting that users with a general interest in the extreme right wing could easily and quickly find themselves coming into content advocating for extreme violence, he wrote.
Guhl and Daveys observations in their report were particular to the broader white power movement. On Telegram, channels associated with white power accelerationism a strategy popular in parts of the extreme right that contends modern society is irredeemable and offers up apocalyptic race war as a solution have sought to dissuade their followers against traditional organizing methods.
