Had dinner with a friend who's a NYS Election Judge this week...

In the upcoming Primaries (June and August), if you request an Absentee Ballot, you CANNOT then come in to the polls on Election Day or during early voting. You MUST vote the Absentee Ballot.

Vote the absentee ballot and return it by mail or to the main Board of Elections office. Otherwise, if you show up in person, it will be a provisional ballot you fill out and it will only count after it is determined you did NOT send in the absentee ballot.

The obvious remedy is to go to the polls on election day and vote on the provisional ballot. Is he saying they can't even do THAT? I find that hard to believe.

That said, NYC does not have a record of not delivering Absentee Ballots.

ballot WAS NOT CAST--i.e., NOT that it was not delivered to the voter. The latter is NOT the standard. Is this precinct judge saying otherwise?
