Abbott's great plan: Conduct weekly inspections of doors

Tweet text:

Greg Abbott
@GregAbbott_TX

Governor candidate, TX
I’m directing the Texas Education Agency to ensure schools are held to heightened safety standards following the tragedy in Uvalde.

I requested TEA to:
- Identify actions to make campuses more secure
- Conduct weekly inspections of doors
- Increase presence of trained officers

Accountability is down the road, if it exists at all for these bottom feeding scum.

We’re talking mid ‘70s here ….there was a big problem with kids skipping class. So what did the administration do? About a half hour after the morning bell rang, they put a chain and a padlock across all the doors except the front door by the office. I shudder to think what might have happened if there was a fire and 2000 kids had to all get out through one door.

Every school door should be wired to the triggers of a gun, so if a bad guy opened the door he would get blown away! I'm sure nothing could possibly go wrong with such an ingenious scheme.

If they're not chained shut and a fire hazard, they become a nuisance and people will habitually block them open.

I live right next to the back corner of a high school, and several years ago a student once explained to me how she would check in through the main front doors with her badge as they were all required. Then since she had 20 minutes to wait, she'd slip out a back door and leave a pencil in the doorjamb so the door wouldn't latch shut and she could exit school grounds and smoke in my apartment parking lot and then return back through the door she blocked open without the school knowing.

But to be fair, Gov. Abbott's proposals won't cost any extra money, of course. Right?
