I fail to understand why supposedly "free market" GOP politicians are against labor unions

It just make no sense to me to advocate for free markets, capitalism, and governments staying out of the way... when they will gladly involve the government to weaken unions.

Unions and capitalism aren't on opposing ends.

From my point of view, labors unions are a feature of capitalism and free markets.

What's more capitalistic, free market, and transactional than negotiating your pay?
What's more capitalistic, free market, and transactional than negotiating how much your time is worth?
What's more capitalistic, free market, and transactional than trying to gain an advantage over a counterparty?

Workers, employees, and laborers join forces with each other, gain more of an advantage over their competitors in the labor market, and gain some power in this capitalistic and transactional relationship with their counterparty. That, at its most basic, is capitalism at work. Yet, they will pass laws to weaken the economic and transactional power of people who belong to unions or wish to be a part of one. They reduce people's ability, via the efforts of unions, to act efficiently in the labor market.

That is the opposite of their economic ideology that they supposedly stand for.

a raw material to be bought at the lowest price possible. They do not see labor as a value adding entity.

Therefore, when the price of labor becomes too costly in one location, business will seek out lower priced suppliers.

Labor is not human beings, but a commodity plain and simple.

Everything is geared towards that.

They just make up fake excuses to defend themselves.

That is why they appear so hypocritical.

meant to convince the masses and some economists that rampant capitalism is the only possible system

In reality, success comes from defeating a free market, by setting yourself up as a monopoly provider of goods or services and using the government to ensure no other party can get in the way of your profits.

They do not want to negotiate wages, they want to dictate them
