Their entire defense is based on they had evidence the election WAS stolen. You can't have evidence the election was stolen before the election. Would this not show intent? They saw the polls, they probably thought they were going to lose. Maybe they started to make plans before the election.

He was more direct about the same question in 2020.
Both times he said that if he lost, it meant that the election was rigged.

(10,832 posts)And his surrogates were murmuring about an election thrown to the House a good six months before the first vote was cast. They knew the Orange Slug was on a glide path to lose after the pandemic debacle. They couldn't let that happen and . . . voila, coup plans were underway with so-called legal justifications.
Or as the one judge said: this was a coup searching for a legal theory.
They planned it. They enacted it. Fortunately for all of us, it failed. The only missing ingredient?
Accountability, aka Asses in Jail.

He refused to alter his campaign behavior and made no effort to appeal to independents or to any faction of voters besides his hard core base. He knew he could count on his base to respond to a call for a coup after proclaiming the results fraudulent.

The only elections which are fair in Trump's mind are those where he or those he supports win. All others are rigged.

(32,645 posts)However Chump may have been cooking up plots with Giuliani before the election. We know they were colluding on other stuff (like trying to blackmail Pres. Zelenskyy) in 2019 - one full year BEFORE the election. It was also before they knew whether Joe Biden was going to be the Democratic opponent.

(21,758 posts)That is the date the attempted coup happened. Anything before should be enough to show intent. My belief is that they will be able to show that easily.

(15,303 posts)They had all barrels loaded with crap years before the elections.
They knew they didn't have the popular vote by a huge margin.
They thought they might not even have the Electoral College for 2020.
Like most bad Boy Scouts, they wanted to Be Prepared.
They found some of the most incredibly incompetent people to help them Become Prepared.
Thank Goddess!

(27,813 posts)The Bush team has plans for a lawsuit in the event they won the popular vote and lost the Electoral College.
It's easy to forget how awful they were and how much damage they caused.

He got this strange look on his face and then smirked his way through the rest of the interview without answering the question.
He knew exactly what he was going to do.

They were claiming that Obama and the Democrats were planning to declare martial law to keep Trump out while they figured out how to put Hillary in there, how "fake electors" could sneak into the EC, and pretty much the whole scene that they tried to pull. They knew, and of course they had plans to overturn the election before it was over, and I hope the proof turns up and these guys, starting with Trump himself, wind up in prison.
