GOP Rep. Tom Rice says impeaching Trump was 'the conservative vote'

South Carolina's Tom Rice was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump for inciting the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Now, as Rice fights an uphill battle for his political life in the heart of Trump country, he is standing by that choice -- calling it “the conservative vote” in an interview with ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl that aired Sunday on "This Week."

“I did it then. And I would do it again tomorrow," Rice said.

Rice said Trump deserved to be impeached for potentially endangering former Vice President Mike Pence and his family at the Capitol and not acting more quickly to stop the deadly riot as it unfolded last year.

I believe you can vote in either primary, but you can only vote in one or the other -- not both. W_HAMILTON Jun 2022 #6

If you were in this congressperson's district, would you vote in the Republican primary to help him out? Or would you let the chips fall where they may and not dirty yourself by voting in a Republican primary for a Republican?

If Pence runs in the 24 presidential primary in Indiana and Trump is running, I will consider pulling a Republican ballot in the primary and vote for Pence. (as a 'favorite son' candidate). Also on the basis that Trump was impeached twice and shouldn't even be on the ballot.

Not sure what the laws in SC say about picking a ballot to support a vote against someone.

At the same time, Republicans care about one thing and one thing only: power. They have certainly voted in our primaries in the past to hurt certain candidates and have had much success in doing so at times.

The true MAGA Republican diehards most certainly want Rice to lose; therefore, is it in Democrats' best interest to hurt them and help a Republican that voted to impeach Trump? But again, you never know the butterfly effect; Rice losing could lead to some unknown winning, and that unknown is a disaster and ends up costing the Republicans the seat in the general election. This is one reason why I'm in the "just stay out of it" position, but I certainly have my doubts...

So I am quietly happy about those rare R's who have stood up to their party.

Without GA Sec of State Raffensperger's resistance to election tampering we could have lost GA and gained an orange monstrosity.

Without PENCE staying to make sure the electoral votes got counted correctly, despite death threats we would have lost the nation

Without Liz Cheney kicking her own party's arse, our Jan 6 Committee might not have gotten as far as it has
