There was a post yesterday describing a not so pleasant experience during a 4-day road trip in an electric car. The poster found that the national recharging network is spotty at best and the fast charging outlets are few and far between.

It seems Musk should've been and should still be one of the most vocal proponents of the BBB which included a nationwide build-out of EV charging stations (think the '50s interstate highway build-out) which could only but help Tesla sales. And God knows, seeing how Tesla stock has fallen recently thus scuttling Musk's acquisition of twitter, he needs to focus on what helps Tesla, his core business, instead of pandering to trump and republicans.
I myself don't know whether to believe that he said he previously voted for Democrats.

(11,476 posts)Only one I know who switched republican in the last 5 years was because they started making more money. She admitted that was reason and when I said you still don't have enough to make a difference she stayed anyway, sigh!
They really push low taxes and paying for nothing practically except military.

more than increased viability/sales of electric vehicles? I don't know.
After reading the bad experience the EV driver had because of the lack of charging stations on a road trip, I certainly changed my mind about my next car being an EV. Have to think hybrid now.

(12,660 posts)Primarily along the major highway/interstate routes and city areas to begin with. They expect to have the initial wave in place between 2023 and 2025, last time I heard. 2nd wave, they were going to expand to smaller towns for a nation-wide service. Of course, that was before supply chain issues and technology source pivots, so first wave probably going to be pushed back to 2024.
But it's obvious the big 3 and their partners are going all in for affordable EV's so it makes sense that investment in charging stations needs to go hand in hand with their vehicle production to build the infrastructure that would encourage customers to purchase those vehicles.

(53,789 posts)plans would want work done on a nationwide charging network. Sure seems like a real robust network needs federal involvement.

(11,476 posts)My reason at the time. bought 5 years ago was I couldn't afford an electric car, but its true if you travel in certain areas hard to find hook ups although I see more and more going in all the time but I live in the west coast.

(53,789 posts)He gets a lot of credit but he's not even the original founder of Tesla. He came in later. And Tesla also got big federal bail out money (Biden Admin) yet he gets "genius" accolades, undeserved IMO.
What a guy. He got his but didn't want benefits to continue.

(1,127 posts)On Thursday, Farquhar tweeted that Musks demand that staff return to the office for at least 40 hours a week feels like something out of the 1950s and allowing people to choose where and how they want to work had been a successful strategy for Atlassian.
He tweeted a link to Atlassians careers page, asking if any Tesla employees were interested.
Atlassians careers page now has a banner that reads: Welcome Tesla friends, were Atlassian and we work from anywhere. Apply now.

(13,186 posts)Republicans only cancel their own moderates (RINOs). They ignore the Twitter death squads populated by a tiny fringe of opportunist activists who elect themselves to represent the left.
Musk specifically said in his Twitter post that he expected "dirty tricks" from the left. That could be his way of crying "fake news" about some stories (factual or fictional) that are spread to try to take him down.
Until the left rids itself of these Inquisitor pests who have elected themselves to represent us, we'll be vulnerable to people simply switching to the other side to avoid witch hunts. Witches will switch and non-witches. We need to shut these nasty, priggish people who claim to be on our side up.

(13,186 posts)If Dems disempower the pests who claim to speak for us, that would be a start. We need to get back to the Dem platform as the message. It has institutional and (dare I say) democratic provenance. These few, fringe emoters who go beyond the platform and self-elect themselves as spokespeople for others can take a break from their mic activity, imo.
The Republican pests like to cast the entire Dem Party as equivalent to our tiny few emoting zealots. Then, the Republican pests even go beyond it and exaggerate and distort even what our (self-proclaimed advocate) pests are saying.

That is my impression.
