Cost me $45 to fill my Toyota Corolla which has extremely good MPG. 30 city/42 highway. My old Chevy Avalanche woulda cost me easily double or even triple the amount since it only got 14 or 15 MPG just in city driving. People really need to move to more fuel efficient vehicles and not have a complex when it comes to owning bigger vehicles they don't necessarily need to have.

(102,360 posts)they are driving just as aggressively as before, flooring it and weaving in and out of traffic, just to be stopped a 1/4 block later at the stoplight. But, boy don't they go nuts at the pump filling up...

(31,051 posts)I get excellent mileage the CAFE standards were in effect, and the car is designed to be light weight

(31,051 posts)Since I retired I havent driven as much so its just about to turn 50,000 miles. It gets great mileage 40 mpg on the highway at least

(6,110 posts)It was a great vehicle to travel long distances with wife, 2 kids, & dog.
We drove from Chicago to San Francisco in style. But I hate to think what it would cost me now to fill the gas tank. Kids are grown up and we did not need the van. But I do miss it. It had 4 reclining seats plus a queen size bed in back (when not folded down it was a seat for 4 more people).

(32,080 posts)It is far safer than smaller vehicles. I don't care what the mileage is or the gas price. Safety is more important to me.

(10,877 posts)Unfortunately, the added safety afforded by pickup trucks is a myth as big as Texas. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) the crash test guys said in their 2019 testing that passengers in modern pickup trucks are at higher risk of injury or death than drivers in car accidents.Jun 30, 2020

(32,080 posts)Not too many smashed up pickups. Also you are higher up in traffic in a pick up which means you see more and are safer, In addition mine has a heavy duty front end grill guard. So its safer no matter what others may think,

(522 posts)I couldn't imagine filling that up today.
I do wish I had the money that these young pick-up drivers have.
Heck a new one costs over 45k, then buy gas and insurance and speed in and out of traffic just to get home and post on Telegram about gas prices!

(21,110 posts)I finally drove the wheel right off of it and had to give it away, but dayum, it was a great vehicle. I would hate to have to fill it up today.

(6,292 posts)for a hybrid suv called a Venza (average 42 mpg for 10,000 miles so far) because I was ruining the Prius with my bad farm roads. Plus I can carry more supplies in this Venza. But, I sure am wishing I was getting 68 mpg!!!!! I sure am looking forward to a plug in hybrid, or all electric. But am really grateful for this vehicle.

(19 posts)But its only 7 minutes to work. Im not wanting to take on a car payment, plus I like being able to haul stuff. At current gas prices Im spending about $5 a day in gas.

(19 posts)Im tempted to drop a rebuilt motor in and drive for another 10 years. Everything else on the truck is good (Tires, brakes, transmission etc ) MUCH cheaper than buying something else.

(35,367 posts)diesel fuel in his truck a couple days ago. It didn't look like the truck had ever hauled anything but
his fat Trump loving ass around.
I have a 17-year-old Toyota Tacoma that gets 18 MPG and a Honda CRV that gets 29 MPG on the local crooked
hilly roads. I drive the CRV most of the time, I have put less than 500 miles on the truck this year. I haven't spent any
more on gas this year than last. I miss driving the truck some, it is old school no computer touch screen, no keyless ignition,
moon roof and it has a CD player.

(19,261 posts)But not any truck. A Ford Maverick. $20,000 base price, much smaller and more maneuverable than an F-150, AND the base model comes standard as a hybrid that gets 40 mpg! Only problem is that they're backordered for a year out
I love my Prius V (48 mpg), but I'm really needing a truck for my hobby farm.
My dream would be that, by the time Ford really ramps up production, they'll introduce a plug-in hybrid version. That would be perfect.

(9,867 posts)Got a Forester SUV that gets about 30 mpg up and down and around the foothills (2700 ft. altitude).
Not all SUV's are bad. I upped my gas mileage by almost 50%. AND, it actually passes cars going uphill.
I miss the pickup but AWD is a necessity up here, and that made the cost of one too high for me at the time.
