ITS PRIME-TIME TV SLOT (*not my "all caps", it was in the title)(Vanity Fair) The January 6 committee is apparently not taking any chances with their media strategy on Thursday, when the first in a series of public hearings will air in prime time. Veteran network executive James Goldston, the former president of ABC News, has joined the committee as an unannounced adviser, Axios reported Monday. The committee tapped Goldston, whose storytelling expertise breathed life into programs such as Nightline, to shape the cache of material that the committee has amassed over the past year, which reportedly includes more than 140,000 documents and disclosures from over 1,000 depositions and interviews. Thursdays prime-time hearing, which Goldston is producing, is said to feature both live witnesses and pre-produced videoincluding clips from some depositions. Goldston plans to make it raw enough so that skeptical journalists will find the material fresh, and chew over the disclosures in future coverage, while also getting the attention of Americans who haven't followed the ins and outs of the Capitol riot probe, Axioss Mike Allen reports.

The 8pm time isnt great for viewers on the west cost but starting it later would cut out a lot of the east coast.

(36,509 posts)but am having a hard time finding where to watch it. The Committee's website should have this info but doesn't. In fact, under "HEARINGS" it reads, "There are no upcoming hearings." Arghh! I remember after the Biden won the election, the DNC took weeks to update their site. WTF, dems?
Here's the link, but there's nothing there for upcoming hearings, only the one past hearing.

(36,509 posts)That you can't Google "When & where can I watch the J6 hearings?" & get a dropdown box with the answer is insane. At the very least, the first link should be the committee hearings page that I linked to above, only with info.
Also, is there a reason why the DNC would avoid info about the hearings? Cuz there's nothing on their website or facebook page. Their site doesn't even have a Current News section with stories about dems & what's going on with dems. I don't get it.

(36,509 posts)And surely someone on the Committee knows what channels will carry it, yet that info isn't on their site. Or the DNCs. Are you kidding me? This info should be the number one result when you Google "when & where can I watch the J6 hearings?" Oh well. They're only the most important hearings in the history of our country.
From several weeks ago:
According to the draft schedule, the June public hearings will explore Trumps efforts to overturn the election, starting and ending with prime time hearings at 8pm on the 9th and the 23rd. In between, the panel will hold 10am hearings on the 13th, 15th, 16th and 21st.

So even if you miss some of the live action, you'll be able to see it.
If all else fails, you can likely watch from the committee's own website.

(2,066 posts)Going into the 2022 midterm elections, which will then play a decisive role in setting the stage for the 2024 presidential election. And the stakes couldn't be higher, in my opinion. If the Democrats don't maintain or strengthen their majority control over both houses of Congress, Republican legislators are going to scuttle and suppress any further inquiries and investigations into Trump's crimes against our democracy, setting the stage for their "Dear Leader's" return to the White House in 2024. If that happens, Trump will probably institute a reign of terror as he tries to get even with all those who he sees as being disloyal and subversive to what he sees as his rightful claim to the presidency in 2020 - in short, with another Trump presidency, you can kiss American democracy goodbye.
In other words, these hearings have to "stick" in the political dialogue going forward, and in the minds of American voters. And they have to stick BIG.

I'll never get that scene out of my head and will never undestand how they were allowed to just leave and go home.

(26,648 posts)At one point, on the second floor of the House, about a half dozen DC cops had at least a dozen of these insurrections on the floor with weapons on them and their hands clasped behind their heads. I'll never understand why they weren't cuffed and escorted to the waiting buses.

(6,017 posts)Several recent polls show that as more news comes out about candidates who supported January 6th, the more support they gain from their Republican base. And of course they are in red states, so this all ends up being a free campaign event for the worst candidates we've seen yet.
And nothing the committee does will matter in the long run without the Dept of Justice prosecuting them. Every single one of them who broke the law. Oh, there will be outrage from Democrats and a few centrists, but it's five months before elections and the GOP knows full well how to best take advantage of all that time to make many people forget about that momentary outrage. Especially if there are not ongoing prosecutions in the lead up to the elections.
Speaking of which - is anyone on Capital Hill at all concerned the elections won't be open, honest and trustworthy? 'Cause if they are, now would've been a really good time to already be doing something about it. But I fear these hearings will be a distraction as everyone on both sides try to use them to campaign for the cameras & news sites.
Am I too cynical about this?
