"SNIP.......

“Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has privately expressed an openness for raising the age to 21 for purchasing semiautomatic rifles, but the issue is unlikely to be included in any final deal because most Republicans are opposed to it,” CNN reports.

to influence his party members to vote for a higher age, so what he says about it is as meaningless as everything else that spews out of his mouth.

Remember what he said about TFG after the coup attempt, and then how he voted against impeachment.

Massacre Mitch talks one way and acts another way.

I think the next step is to introduce this (and other) measures individually and force Republicans, McConnell included, to vote up or down on the record.

Ordinarily I'm not a fan of introducing legislation that our leadership knows is going to fail, but these are extraordinary times.

Force members of the GOP to record their votes. One item (only) at a time. No package deals around which anyone can make excuses.

As a point of information, this person is a huge fan of his 88 year-old Democratic Senator, so I would not support losing her due to imposed age limits.

I’d be fine with raising the age to purchase any semi-automatic weapon to 25, personally, though that also would be unlikely to survive a court challenge.

Put a mandatory insurance on semi-automatics, and just like on automobiles, the insurance on the under-25 crowd would be through the roof.
And if little Jimmy sneaks his dad's gun out one night, and shoots a few people, dad's insurance is covering NOTHING!
I know I'll get eaten up with posts, about how I don't know what I'm talking about - and they wouldn't be wrong. But the 'Market' may be the ONLY way we can get some form of control over this situation!

Does anyone here think a parent is going to feel better about a dead child if that child is killed by a 21 year old instead of an 18 year old?

This is absolutely ridiculous. The news media is acting like it's a huge story that some in the GOP and Mitch are "willing" to act on this.

Ban the damned AR15's!

So while there will be no solace for the parents of a child murdered by a 21 year old, there will be plenty for the parents of the child who wasn’t murdered at all.

Also, the number of people killed with all rifles combined — including an AR-15 — is statistically insignificant compared to people killed with handguns and other firearms. Banning ARs will have a relatively insignificant impact on total gun violence, unfortunately.

Did you completely misunderstand what I posted? The section of my post you quoted is talking about how we would have fewer murdered children if we raise the age to purchase these weapons, thus fewer parents would be mourning their murdered children.

You think THAT is an NRA talking point? Lord have mercy.

You’re the one who wrote that raising the age to purchase weapons would be ineffective because parents won’t care whether their children are murdered by an 18 year old or a 21 year old. That ignores the fact that fewer children would be murdered in the first place. That sounds like an NRA talking point.

"For long guns, which includes rifles like AR-15s and shotguns, the minimum age of purchase from a licensed dealer is 18 under the federal law. But there’s no minimum age to purchase a long gun from a unlicensed seller. "

https://thehill.com/homenews/politics-101/375154-what-are-the-current-age-restrictions-on-guns/

Some states do have laws that set a minimum age to be able to own a long gun.
