NBC News via Yahoo NewsWhen asked by reporters whether he would support proposed legislation from a Florida state representative that would punish parents who take their children to such performances, the governor said he has asked his staff to look into the idea.
"We have child protective statutes on the books," the governor said. "We have laws against child endangerment."
It used to be kids would be off-limits. Used to be everybody agreed with that, DeSantis continued. Now it just seems like theres a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age appropriate.
The debate over whether minors should be allowed to watch drag performances began Saturday after videos showing young children attending a Dallas drag show, and tipping performers with cash, emerged on social media.

(16,786 posts)So much for "small government". Now DeSatan wants to interfere with parents and their decisions about how to parent? I think these parents need to tell him to his face in brutal language.."GO FUCK YOURSELF, RON !"

(16,849 posts)It's pretty unusual to see children at drag shows, since those performances are usually at bars. But who cares if kids see a drag show at some other venue where all ages are welcome? They're afraid that kids will grow up to be open-minded and tolerant. People who aren't scared of others who are different aren't going to vote for people who stir up hatred to get votes. It's that simple.
Here in Mississippi for a long time politicians would make hay out of hatred for black people. Usually the person who yelled "ni--er" the loudest would win the election. Now it's all about gay and trans people in some places. It's the same dynamic.
Instead of trying to do things to help people and make the government responsive to our needs, these politicians encourage tribalism and ignorance. They're working for society's owner class. They have always used hatred of the other to divide us and keep us fighting each other instead of getting at the root of our problems. And that strategy has usually worked for them. When will we learn not to take that bait and stick together to fight our common enemy?
