1. I think you are right. This is working for him. Besides they are deep into GOTV mode anyway.

But a public announcement that "I will accept the judgment of the American people on Tuesday. But today I must give my full attention to the job at hand." would be very strong. "If suspending my campaigning while Governor Romney continues to campaign aggressively costs me the election, then so be it."

4. I think it would be a mistake, he needs to campaign with what time is left.

There's many out there who will not take it for the context that we would see it, the POTUS doing his job, but rather someone who doesn't want to fight the school bully in the parking lot after school. Just my two cents.

8. I agree. His surrogates will do the job for him just fine. They could say something

like "I know the President would like to be here and visit with all of you, but as you know he is very busy right now with all of the problems in the wake of the storm. He is doing the job that you sent him to do..."
