Perhaps he'll be sent to prison and he can run his next campaign from his prison cell.

(58,785 posts)solid majority conservative, more religious than CA average, largest bloc by far Catholic, not a surprise.
BUT, a majority of the voters didn't like what he was doing and voted him out. The typical result when the effects of extremism are brought home to those who vote. Unfortunately, that typically takes a while. This one drew backlash from all over CA and is jettisoned relatively quickly, after a second four-year term.

(8,325 posts)It doesn't have to come from the actual area itself. Just the general interests that want to push a specific agenda.

(58,785 posts)especially, as well as those who maintain the Repub Party, keep local Repubs adequately funded. Doesn't take much money at all, though.
Remember, the whole purpose of campaign financing is to INFLUENCE THE VOTERS. The voters decide elections. They may decide stupid, but their vote determines who gets power.
Which is why I pointed out that a dependable majority of "The People" here are solidly conservative. I think I read that about 40+% voted for Biden -- and that was doing well. Over half are Hispanic, and a majority of those virtually always are strongly conservative -- a deep-seated cultural and religious thing. Plus low income and educational levels. All nurture -- on top of the usual half or so of all people wired to naturally be overall conservative by personality type. (The other half liberal.)
If money corruption disappeared, if there were no PACs and no outside donations, the People of this district would still vote for the conservative party.

(5,256 posts)This is in Kings County, which is in the southern part of California's Central Valley, an agricultural region. The entire county has a population of 150,000. Not surprisingly, it's fairly conservative - by California standards, that is.
This was a significant development.

(32,727 posts)How is this happening in our country? We let women spend years in jail for that? WTF? Why isn't HE in jail right now??? How many other women are rotting away in jail cells across this country for the same thing?

(455 posts)The law already says a woman shall not be prosecuted for the loss of her pregnancy, but it sounds like maybe it needs to be a criminal offense to bring such a charge. I'd like to see the penalty be the same as for the illegally filed charge, too.

(20,819 posts)police on these women also deserve public scorn and anger. Is it just me, or are many hospitals and clinics becoming crueler and more authoritarian, especially towards POC and the poor?
