Weather to blame for shortage of popular Sriracha hot sauce

Thanks to a lackluster spring chili pepper harvest, one of the world’s biggest hot sauce manufacturers has suspended production of its iconic spicy sauces throughout the summer.

The maker of one of the United States' most beloved condiments has been forced to suspend production of its iconic spicy sauces until at least Labor Day. A worsening drought and rising temperatures are to blame.

In a statement to AccuWeather, Huy Fong Foods, the maker of the famous Sriracha Hot Chili Sauce, confirmed the shortage of its products.

"We are still endeavoring to resolve this issue that has been caused by several spiraling events, including unexpected crop failure from the spring chili harvest," the company wrote.

Right now is harvest time in South Texas. Probably still too early in New Mexico.

In CA can probably plant in Feb, but Imperial Valley is probably best for spring production.

Peppers are pulled at the time around here and planted again in Sept

real shortages appear even worse or manifest more rapidly. Even though the company has spoken about the looming problem for months, it's just the last couple of days this story is everywhere on the web, and for the first time this weekend we found our supermarket nearly cleared out of Huy Fong products. Headed down that aisle I spotted a couple shoppers that had half a dozen or more bottles in their cart. I suppose we contributed to the shortage ourselves by buying one bottle to stash in our pantry.
