To admit others may be patriotic besides themselves would mean there is a common bond. And, that common bond is not acceptable as they are brainwashed into thinking they are superior and to accept a commonality would be unbearable.
Its a base division the RW loves to exploit for much needed votes.

(3,650 posts)Most Southerners are loyal to their churches and their local and immediate families. Their aunts, uncles and cousins who live some distance away or who they see once a year or so? Not so much. They are loyal to those with whom they formed social bonds in middle school and/or high school. Anyone outside those few spheres of influence are viewed with suspicion. It's pure tribal behavior.
