And given some mob justice from the gawkers involved in this 'takeover' (or whatever name we use to justify this idiotic behavior.)

The reporters here are calling them street takeovers but they're also called sideshows.

People block off a big intersection and then do donuts and drift around. It is one of the dumbest things you will ever witness. Not only the drivers, but the people standing around who can be very easily hit and killed if a driver loses control.

It's Darwinism in its purest form.

San Francisco and other areas around the Bay have been having issues with this in the past few years.

A recent local story about them.

There are "clubs" that are national that feature stuff like this.

There was a long LBN thread last month about it - https://www.democraticunderground.com/10142913269

During the pandemic, many of the "popular" streets were empty and they got into doing it more and more and now with people going back into offices, it's become untenable.

The below was last fall happened and downtown here in Philly, literally right in front of City Hall.

Google "street takeover deaths".

Typically they ramp up, die down then ramp up again over the course of the year.

doing donuts and tricks with a crowd of people watching. The onlookers block the roads with their cars so police can't get easy access and they pop up usually at night.

By the time the cops get notified the crowd and cars disperse to another intersection somewhere.

I was thinking they should install road bollards but I think that would probably cause too many problems during regular traffic hours.

Street takeovers have been happening in NW Philly, probably all parts of the city. Seems the idiots are testing it out just past Philly limits into the township where I live. Happens in the wee hours, I can often hear what sounds like drag racing. A couple weeks ago someone posted video, an intersection was taken over by souped up cars and ATVs going round in circles

Even now it's more expensive but not so expensive that most people's lifestyles are changing.

over the weekend. No humans were injured, but someone's dog jumped out of the window of their apartment due to the noise and died.

ALL of the participants need to do, at a MINIMUM, a LOT of community service for what they've done. Worthless freakin' morons.
